Job Summary: The Lead Engineer- Bulk ASU Standards & Design is a key member of the Customer Engineering Services (C.E.S.) Engineering & Assets team. This individual will be a subject matter expert responsible for the development and implementation of standardized and custom/project specific ASU bulk customer stations designs and responsible for conceptual design and proposal development activities for bulk cryogenic storage and delivery systems for the entire Messer Americas Markets business. This role will drive best practices and standardization to achieve optimal safety, quality, efficiency, and reliability for Messer Americas bulk business. The role interfaces with external customers, Messer commercial personnel, Messer Americas Procurement, HSE, and will have a wide range of influence within the Messer Americas bulk business.

Principal Responsibilities:



  • Lead engineer to provide technical support to the Messer Americas Bulk market. Fulfills role as the primary Subject Matter Expert on the design and installation of all ASU bulk cryogenic storage systems at customer sites.
  • Support Messer Americas MIMSS Bulk ASU standards and CES department standards content development and maintenance as subject matter expert.
  • Leads and manages the technical proposal effort in support of the Messer Americas Bulk ASU new bulk business objectives. Manage direct reports to provide technical proposal support to account managers, interface with external customers to identify & confirm customer requirements, development of technical solutions and cost estimates to form the basis of commercial proposals.
  • Leads the detailed design effort on all bulk ASU cryogenic customer station system design & installation projects. Responsible for ensuring seamless project turnover to regional CES Project Execution personnel during the planning and execution of new customer installations. Collaborates with CES Asset Management in the forecasting & provision of key equipment/assets required for new bulk ASU customer station installations.
  • Support Messer Americas safety goals through development and implementation of standard designs for bulk ASU cryogenic customer station systems installed at customer sites.
  • Lead the implementation of EMOC procedures with respect to revisions to existing ASU cryogenic customer stations & designs. Fulfill role of technical specialist during the EMOC process with respect to the upgrade of or modification to existing ASU cryogenic customer station customer installations owned & operated by Messer Americas.
  • Fulfills role as lead subject matter expert for bulk ASU cryogenic customer station systems representing Messer Americas on national and industry standards and best practices organizations such as NFPA and CGA. Ensures that Messer Americas ASU cryogenic customer station designs and installations are installed and maintained in accordance with current industry codes and guidelines.



Required Skills:

* Subject matter expert knowledge of NFPA 55 Standard for the Storage, Use, and Handling of Compressed Gases and Cryogenic Liquids and CGA standards on Bulk Distribution Equipment and Systems.



  • Subject matter expert experience with process equipment engineering; P&ID's, process piping design, pressure vessels, cryogenic centrifugal/reciprocating pumps, and pump controls, and ASME high pressure storage tubes.
  • Accountable for the development of technical proposals for project values ranging from $75k-$500k with direct supervision of assigned internal engineering resources and of external third-party technical resources as required based on project complexity and scale. Develop, guide, and facilitate technical proposal request and development process & associated tools/methods.


Basic Qualifications:




  • Bachelor's degree - Engineering degree from an ABET accredited institution required, mechanical or chemical engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience with cryogenic storage, vaporization, pumping, and distribution systems and associated process equipment.



The salary range for this position is $106,000-$155,000. Messer provides medical, dental, vision, short term disability, life insurance and paid time off as well as other voluntary benefits, such as, long term disability in accordance with the terms and conditions of these Plans.
