Interacts and maintains a positive attitude at all times. Supervises public safety officers and reports to the manager for any coaching or corrective actions that officers may need. Performs performance reviews for assigned officers and reports them to the manager to review and submit. Performs a variety of duties to ensure the welfare of patients, employees, and visitors; protects grounds, buildings, equipment and supplies of the hospital; makes decisions on the best way to obtain and maintain the security of the hospital, patients, employees and visitors within departmental and hospital guidelines.

Responsibilities
- 1. Essential Functions
- 1.1 Must have knowledge of and enforce all hospital, Public Safety dept. policies. Educates public safety officers in any new policies, procedures, equipment or techniques.
- 1.2. Responsible for parking documentation and registration of hospital employee vehicles.
1.3. Reports to work early to conduct shift turnover such as communicating pertinent information to the oncoming shift. 1.4. Acts as a liaison between the Westerly Public Safety Manager and public safety officers. 1.5. Is responsible for the supervision of all Westerly Public Safety Officers. 1.6. Ensures all reports are properly completed and done in a timely manner. Example: Incident reports, employee written accident reports, OC spray reports, and Occurrence reports 1.7. Responsible for quick response and oversight of all critical incident events. 1.8. Responsible for conducting investigations of unusual or sensitive occurrences. 1.9. Reports directly to and works with the Westerly Public Safety Manager regarding scheduling, job performance of officers, safety concerns and the general operation of the department. 1.10. Is responsible for the proper staffing of shifts including filling vacancies due to sick call or PTO. 1.11. Is responsible for the training of all new employees on Defensive Resources. Ensures they know the hospital and feel comfortable performing their job. 1.12. Assists with conducting interviews of potential Public Safety candidates. 1.13. Maintains ordering inventory of all department supplies 1.14. Performs other duties as assigned. 1.15. Provides input and recommendations for department goals and objectives. 1.16. Working with Public Safety Manager, conducts risk assessments and implements best practices to ensure security, safety and regulatory compliance. 1.17. With the Public Safety Manager, acts as a liaison between the Hospital and Law Enforcement Agencies. -
Qualifications
EDUCATION Minimum of a high school diploma or GED graduate. BS in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement preferred. EXPERIENCE Minimum of one year Security, Law enforcement or Military experience and training background required. LICENSURE Requires certifications including Baton, handcuffing and O.C. Foam. Valid Driver's license required. Must be able to obtain Pistol Permit if needed/when required.
