About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is an industry leader in natural resource permitting and ecological restoration. We are seeking a Staff CAD Designer to join our team and support a wide range of environmental initiatives across the U.S. In this role, you'll collaborate closely with Project Engineers and Scientists on innovative projects that make a difference.

This is a regular, full-time, hourly position with the flexibility to work from anywhere in the United States. Candidates located near one of our SWCA offices may also enjoy a hybrid work environment.


What you will accomplish

  • Support the implementation and maintenance of company-wide CAD standards.
  • Produce CAD products for natural, cultural, paleontological, and other environmental resource projects using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Incorporate attributes from diverse data sources, symbolizing features, and manage file imports/exports across various formats.
  • Create production and field maps based on metadata, data sets, and geo-databases.
  • Utilize feature lines for site grading and earthwork balancing.
  • Perform earthwork volume calculations.
  • Assist field crews with GPS-grade surveying and data collection.

Experience and qualifications for success

Minimum requirements:

  • Associate's degree in Geography, Cartography, CADD Drafting, GIS Technology, or a related field with an emphasis on GIS (or GIS/CADD certificate).
  • At least two (2) years of experience in CADD/GIS technology, field data collection techniques, data integration to CADD/GIS, and troubleshooting equipment and digital files.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Experience with ArcGIS 10.0-10.1 and AutoCAD Map 3D.
  • Previous experience in natural or cultural resources management, remote sensing, or permitting is a plus.

An employee in this position can expect an hourly pay rate of $30.50 to $39.59/hour. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
