Position Summary:
The
Center for Computational Heliophysics (CCH) of the New Jersey Institute of
Technology, Department of Physics, invites applications for a research
associate position for the development of helioseismology methods and numerical
MHD simulations for the investigation of properties of subsurface flows and magnetic
fields. We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in solar
physics, helioseismology, MHD modeling, mathematics, statistics, and
computational methods. Experience in analyzing observational data from the
Solar Dynamics Observatory and 3D numerical simulations is essential. The
successful applicant will be expected to work on the project, including the development
of software, publication of original research, and support of CCH projects. Applicants
should have obtained a Ph.D. in applied physics or a related field. The appointment's
start date is October 1, 2025. The initial appointment is for twelve months and
can be extended subject to funding availability. Benefits are competitive, and
salary will be commensurate with the applicant's experience.

Essential Functions:
-Development of helioseismology methods, analysis of large
data sets from Solar Observatory, global-Sun MHD modeling methods and software,
publication of original research, and support of CCH projects.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
-Ph.D.
in solar/applied physics or related field.
-Must demonstrate the ability to perform independent research and publish
peer-reviewed articles.
-At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Experience in helioseismology and/or numerical MHD
simulations.

Salary Information:
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the negotiated starting annual salary for this position is $43,562 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
