POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The School of Library and Information Studies invites applications for a tenure track or tenured position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. The school seeks outstanding applicants whose research focuses on public librarianship (e.g., community engagement, services to diverse populations, children's and young adult programming) and who can teach courses related to public librarianship and other areas of library and information science. Professional experience working in public libraries is preferred.

JOB SUMMARY AND DUTIES

The successful candidate is expected to engage in a wide range of activities as a faculty member including teaching, research, and service. They will teach courses in multiple areas of LIS at the master's level, will advise graduate students, and will work collaboratively with colleagues on school, campus, and professional committees. They will have a productive research agenda, which includes publications in scholarly journals and grant submissions. The successful candidate will be committed to inclusive excellence and will support the University's commitment to thrive as a Hispanic-Serving Institution and a model for student success. The successful candidate will be expected to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, and staff, and will demonstrate the ability to meet the educational needs of a diverse student population. Holding weekly office hours on the Denton campus is expected.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Assistant Professor: (a) Earned doctorate in Library and Information Studies or a related discipline (ABD considered); (b) commitment to meeting the educational needs of a diverse online student population; (c) strong potential for excellence in online course delivery; (d) strong potential for a productive research agenda; (e) willingness to participate in service activities of the school, college, university, and community.

Associate Professor: (a) Earned doctorate in Library and Information Studies or a related discipline; (b) commitment to meeting the educational needs of a diverse online student population; (c) excellence in online course delivery; (d) has maintained a productive research agenda; (e) willingness to show leadership in service activities of the school, college, university, and community.

Professor: (a) Earned doctorate in Library and Information Studies or a related discipline; (b) commitment to meeting the educational needs of a diverse online student population; (c) sustained record of excellence in online course delivery and the development of innovative programs; (d) sustained and productive record of scholarship; (e) demonstrated leadership in professional organizations and willingness to show leadership in service activities of the school, college, university, and community.

SCHOOL INFORMATION:

The School of Library and Information Studies, one of four departments in the College of Professional Education, is committed to excellence in graduate education. The school offers the oldest continuously ALA-accredited master's degree program in the Southwest, and its programs are available entirely online. The school offers a Master of Library Science degree and certificate programs in School Librarianship, Community Information, and Health Sciences Librarianship. The school supports curricula for students across the university, including an interdisciplinary informatics degree program, a dual master's degree in Library Science and Health Studies, and a minor in Library Science for doctoral students in other disciplines.
