REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES


The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Student Worker (NewGen Leaders).
This Job Announcement will remain open until a sufficient number of applications are received.

This position may require working at any of the Broward County Parks locations.
General Description
NewGen Leaders Program: This program runs 12 months and provides participants with entry-level, part-time paid positions that will get them started on the road to success. The principal goal of the program is to provide an alternate to youth violence and crime; provide a structured environment to at risk youth; and opportunities to learn life skills and develop leadership attributes through education and hands-on training.

These leaders of tomorrow will receive on-site practical work experience and take part in enrichment classes that focus on topics such as budgeting, resume writing, communication, stress management, healthy relationships, goal setting, financial literacy, and making positive choices.

While gaining personal growth and skills, participants will be trained and assigned to work in different areas of the Parks and Recreation Division such as Information Technology, Administration, Summer Camp, Front-Desk Operations, Aquatics, Concessions, Security, Safety, Special Populations, Emergency Management, Environmental, and other areas.

The program will be offered at Franklin Park, Roosevelt Gardens Park, and Sunview Park.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Must be currently enrolled in a state licensed school, college, or university, must be at least 16 years of age, must demonstrate student status for the duration of the appointment, and must be interested in learning how to become a leader the community.
Special Certifications and Licenses
None.

Preferences
Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Additional Information:All candidates must complete an extensive ten (10) year work history verification and criminal background check which includes post-offer physical examination, finger printing, drug testing, and clearing of DCF's Affidavit of Good Moral Character (https://www.myflfamilies.com/service-programs/background-screening/docs/DCF%20AGMC.pdf ).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Participates in a series of training, activities and field trips to learn different skills for future job.

Participates in community service event to enhance neighborhoods and provide services to the neighbors.

Demonstrates interest in learning about leadership development.

Performs a variety of specialized office support work involving the use of a personal computer, a variety of software applications, and other office equipment

Interacts with the public, County staff, program participants, or vendors in order to obtain goods or services, assist in using agency or postal delivery service, equipment, programs, and/or facilities, collect fees, answer questions, identify service needs or locate missing materials.

Prepares a variety of correspondence, notifications, forms, meeting minutes, and related documents in order to communicate information to staff and/or the public; processes requests for agency materials/information received by phone, fax, email, or in person in order to provide patrons with requested materials/information.

Performs a variety of facility maintenance work in order to ensure a clean, safe environment for the public and County employees, minimize major repairs/replacement costs, and/or extend the useful life of equipment/fixtures.

Clean offices, break rooms, restrooms, halls, shop areas, pavilions, sidewalks, etc. in order to provide a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for the public and other staff.

Sets up and takes down temporary facilities for meetings and special events in order to provide a safe, comfortable location for special events/activities.

Processes money received in order to account for park users fees.

Balance cash drawers in order to ensure money (bills, coins and checks) in drawer matches fund processed.

Performs related work as assigned.

Physical Demands

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of electronic office equipment within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
