DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will gain hands-on experience by assisting with the repair and maintenance of various vehicles, including cars, trucks, and heavy machinery such as sweepers, mixers, and front-end loaders. Your responsibilities will involve identifying necessary repairs and participating in the replacement of components like shock absorbers, transmissions, and brakes. You will also assist with tasks such as wheel balancing, alignment checks, minor body repairs, and the testing and replacement of alternators and electrical systems. Additionally, you will engage in automotive diagnostics, tune-ups, and tire changes, as well as the repair and replacement of engine subassemblies. This will encompass adjustments to cooling, suspension, electrical, heating, and air-conditioning systems, along with the maintenance of fuel injection, brake, steering, and transmission systems, and the repair or rebuilding of construction and shop equipment. Moreover, you will support official state inspections for vehicle safety and emissions, which includes performing necessary repairs to meet regulatory standards, conducting road tests, issuing inspection stickers, and completing the required State Inspection Records and documentation. Your analytical skills will be essential as you identify equipment issues using diagnostic tools and procedures, helping to determine appropriate repair methods while also learning to maintain various motorized hand tools such as chain saws, compressors, and mowers. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment.
- Work hours are 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
- Travel, overtime and dual shifts required. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,844 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years as a Tradesman Helper (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
working in the automotive field; or - Graduation from a post-high school diesel technology curriculum of an accredited trade or technical school; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Conditions of Employment:
- This position requires employees to possess an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit or License on the first day of employment.
- This position requires employees to possess an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment.
- Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
- This position requires employees to obtain a valid Pennsylvania Class 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification during the probationary period.
- This position requires operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
- This position will require employees to pass the Department of Transportation's New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
- This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
