Job Summary:

This position exists to provide direct facility maintenance, repair, custodial, and contracted partner support for the Norris University Center and related satellite locations. Reporting to the Assistant Director for Norris Facilities, this position exists to ensure that mission-driven activities and services take place in a safe, clean environment.

Pay Range: $54,000 to $64,000 depending on experience, skills, and internal equity.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • 40% Perform and supervise the maintenance and repair of all furnishings, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) in the Norris University Center and Satellite Venues. This includes building hardware, event equipment, food service equipment, and custodial equipment. Create and maintain preventative maintenance plan for mechanical equipment.
  • 15% Manage the Norris University Center key inventory and check out procedures. Maintain in-house database of Norris key holders. Partner with Northwestern Lock shop to ensure exterior and interior operability and security of mechanical lock systems of the Norris Center. Coordinate electronic access (Millennium Access) for approved users of the Norris Center and associate buildings.
  • 15% Maintain a database of facility maintenance requests. Determine the nature of facility repairs and adjustments needed, and coordinate with Northwestern Facilities Management trades, or external contractors as needed. Serve as in-house repair service for items not requiring external services.
  • 10% Oversee daily operations of contracted custodial provider. Monitor the activities of all 3 shifts of custodial services, including scheduling of special cleaning projects, day-to-day facility cleanliness, and provide recommendations/feedback on service needs and improvements.
  • 10% Directly hire, and supervise up to 4 facilities student employees, and temporary staff as needed. This includes training on shop safety, tool safety, payroll, and hiring/termination.
  • 4% Manage the safety, regulatory compliance, inventory, and operations of the Norris Facilities Shop. This includes maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies needed to maintain associated buildings, and FF&E (light bulbs, replacement parts, paint, etc.).
  • 2% Perform or assign designee to perform daily facility walk through and inspections as needed. Identify facility issues before they impact operations.
  • 2% Coordinate pest control planning and scheduling with contracted service provider.
  • 2% Participate in departmental initiatives as requested and as appropriate. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, with certification or working toward at least one of the major trades, e.g., HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc. At least 3 years of experience in a facility of higher learning or similar experience.

Minimum Competencies:

  • Ability to operate maintenance equipment and tools. Understanding of custodial, maintenance, and repair practices. Knowledge of facility operations. Supervisory and training experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, with certification in at least one of the major trades, e.g., HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc. At least 5 years of experience in a facility of higher learning or similar experience.
    Valid driver's license

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to lift up to 40lbs unassisted, periodic ladder work.
  • Occasional schedule adjustments as needed (evenings, weekends, early mornings, overnights).
  • Frequent outdoor travel across the Evanston Campus.
