As a Sr. Principal Optical Line System Architect within Nokia's Optical Networks Group, you will play a pivotal role in pioneering the design and architecture of cutting-edge optical DWDM communication systems. Collaborating closely with our dedicated Systems Engineering and Software Development teams, you'll lead the technical vision for innovative optical hardware and software platforms. You'll align product requirements with Product Line Management, developing comprehensive DWDM line system architectures that address transmission characteristics and fiber nonlinearities. Your expertise will be crucial in creating distributed optical line system control frameworks and in validating new transmission technologies for clients.   • Lead the architecture and design of innovative optical DWDM communication systems.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Line Management to define and refine product requirements and specifications.
  • Design and validate optical line system controls, working alongside software development and testing teams.
  • Create system design rules and performance models to enhance product reliability and performance.
  • Demonstrate cutting-edge optical transmission technologies to key customers, showcasing our solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership by advising on fiber transmission characteristics and nonlinearities in DWDM designs.
  • Foster strong cross-functional and international teamwork, enhancing collaboration across engineering and product teams.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to diverse stakeholders, facilitating mutual understanding and innovation.


  • Ph.D. in Optics/Engineering or M.S. in Optics/Electrical Engineering + 5 years of experience
  • Excellent foundational knowledge of DWDM systems and transmission fiber effects
  • Hands-on experience with DWDM transmission systems, including coherent transponders and ROADMs
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with a focus on cross-functional teamwork


It would be nice if you also had:



  • Experience in the architecture and validation of distributed optical line system control systems
  • Understanding of advanced coherent modulation formats and their practical applications
  • Familiarity with closed loop and open loop control systems
  • Experience demonstrating new optical technologies to customers
