EMS Lead Instructor

Location: ONSITE-Riverside, CA

Annual Compensation: $90,000.00 - $100,000.00 DOE

Functions as Lead Instructor for identified courses and cohorts and coordinates programs as assigned. Instructs in all levels of EMS education: courses in the National EMS Education Standards framework, refresher education, and standardized specialty courses.

Responsibilities:

Instructional Responsibilities

  • Develops, updates, and delivers course content, including objectives, lesson plans, syllabi, evaluations, and educational tools, ensuring alignment with National EMS Education Standards and current evidence-based practices
  • Designs curriculum for various formats: in-person, hybrid, online, and webinars
  • Posts course materials on the learning platform within required timeframes
  • Coordinates assigned courses, including planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Provides lectures, supervises skill labs, and serves as a lab instructor as needed
  • Maintains accurate records of courses, students, and program activities
  • Evaluates student progress across cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains; provides regular feedback and documents issues
  • Participates in test item development, revision, and analysis to meet accreditation standards
  • Reviews student evaluations and patient care reports, offering constructive feedback

Clinical & Administrative Support

  • Maintains communication with clinical sites and preceptors in coordination with the Clinical Coordinator
  • Supervises students in clinical settings as scheduled
  • Offers limited tutoring and teaches in other programs as requested
  • Ensures exam security and proper handling of evaluation tools
  • Stays current with state/local EMS regulations, accreditation standards, and institutional policies
  • Maintains instructor status for standardized courses as agreed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Education & Industry Experience

  • Associate degree required - Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive field/clinical experience as a Paramedic or Emergency Nurse
  • Documented teaching experience
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • EMS education program development experience preferred, including learner-centered curriculum and evaluation systems
  • Licensure/Certification:
    • Licensed Paramedic or Registered Nurse in the program state
    • NREMT certification preferred
  • Instructor Certifications (required within one year of hire and must remain current):
    • AHA BLS Instructor
    • AHA ACLS Instructor
    • PHTLS or ITLS Instructor
    • PALS, PEPP, or EPC Instructor
    • Completion of an approved instructor course (per local authority requirements)
