What You Can Expect

As a Computational Power Systems Engineer Advisor at ENGIE Energy Marketing North America (EEMNA), you will lead the development of high-performance simulation tools that model the physical and operational behavior of the electric grid. Working closely with the Head of Market Analytics, data scientists, and software developers, you will design scalable grid dispatch simulations and optimization algorithms that inform real-time decision-making and long-term planning for our energy platforms.

This role is ideal for an experienced engineer with a strong foundation in power systems, optimization, and numerical modeling. You will work on highly technical challenges, combining simulation, mathematical programming, and distributed computing in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

Reporting to the Head of Market Analytics, your roles and responsibilities include:

  • Writing, refining, and supporting computational electrical grid simulation software
  • Working with development teams to optimize computational simulations to run distributed on the cloud
  • Leveraging real-world data and mathematical knowledge to create approximations of grid dispatch simulation
  • Working with fellow data science team members to combine physical and mathematical simulations to develop AI models of the grid
  • Evaluating, quantifying, and monitoring model performance and simulation uncertainty
  • Interfacing with business units to better understand use cases and critical components in which forecasts and simulation output will be leveraged

What You'll Bring

  • Minimum of a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power System Engineering, Mathematical Optimization, or related field
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience writing electrical simulation code
  • Proficiency with Economic Dispatch, DC Optimal Power Flow, Unit Commitment, and Constraint/Contingency Analysis
  • Background in optimization, numerical methods, and uncertainty quantification
  • Proficiency with mixed integer linear optimization
  • Proficiency in a programming language such as Python.
  • An understanding of distributed computation and parallel computing
  • Ability to clearly document and explain complex technical methodologies to non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong attention to detail and a collaborative, team-first mindset

Additional Details

  • This role is based in Houston, TX with a hybrid work arrangement. However, for highly qualified candidates outside the area, a fully remote option within the U.S. is available, provided the individual can travel to the Houston office at least one week per month
  • Must be available to travel domestically up to 15% of the time and with the need for some overnight trips
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
