Assist the organization's X-ray, Laser, Magnetic Resonance (MR) and Radiation Safety Officers in fostering a healthy safety culture among Hospital staff, provide oversight and management of those programs when applicable, and ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations. Work with the Executive Radiation Safety Committee and all applicable sub-committees to ensure the Hospital meets or exceeds regulatory requirements and accepted standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and review policies, procedures, guidance, reports, and metrics to enhance safety culture and maintain compliance
  • Inspect, test, and assess various radiological equipment used in clinical and research settings, including X-ray radiation-producing, laser, and MRI, and other related equipment.
  • Participate in the Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Safety On-Call rotation
  • Monitor occupational and patient radiation exposures and assist in the administration of the occupational radiation exposure monitoring program
  • Provide content expertise and review training programs and materials for technical accuracy. This contributes to teaching residents, fellows, and technical staff on radiological safety topics
  • Ensure compliance with all governmental and regulatory authorities

Education & Experience requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Health physics, medical physics, radiological sciences and protection or relevant field and min of 5 yrs of relatable experience is required. A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience with managing committees in an institutional setting is highly desirable
  • Strong, working knowledge of the EHS issues facing service area. The incumbent serves as a "content expert" in one or more technical areas and must be able to apply general information and regulatory references to solve sector-specific problems and challenges
  • The ability to effectively operate in a matrix management system. Must be able to motivate, direct, and support personnel. Able to identify and prioritize EHS training and resource needs for service area in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and implement new programs and procedures
  • The ability to perform research to identify potential hazards associated with selected medical/surgical products
