POSITION SPECIFICS

Org Location: Penn State College of Medicine - Office of the Dean
Reports To: Director, Strategic Initiatives

Position Summary:

The Business Analyst will play a critical role in the College of Medicine's digital transformation efforts by working closely with IT and business units like Finance, Facilities, Research, Education, HR, and Faculty Affairs, to develop an administrative data warehouse, dashboards, and streamlined business intelligence processes. This individual will bridge the gap between business needs and technical solutions, ensuring that data and technology support the college's operational and strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Warehouse & Business Intelligence

    • Collaborate with IT teams to design and implement an administrative data warehouse that integrates key institutional data sources.

    • Define and document business requirements for data reporting and analytics.

    • Partner with business area stakeholders to develop, build, and deploy dashboards and reports that provide actionable insights for decision-making.

  • Process Improvement & Digital Transformation

    • Assess and analyze current administrative workflows to identify opportunities for automation and optimization, using the MS Power Platform, including Power Automate.

    • Work with IT and business units to develop and implement new digital tools and systems that enhance operational efficiency.

    • Support change management efforts by developing training materials and assisting users in adopting new technologies.

  • Stakeholder Engagement & Requirements Gathering

    • Conduct interviews, workshops, and surveys to understand business needs and translate them into functional requirements.

    • Act as a liaison between the Dean's Office and business units to ensure alignment on digital initiatives.

    • Develop detailed documentation on business processes, client lifecycles, and user experience.

  • Data Governance & Compliance

    • Work with IT and institutional leadership to ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with university policies and regulations.

    • Support efforts to establish data governance frameworks and best practices.

  • Strategic Analysis & Reporting

    • Provide insights through data analysis and visualization to support faculty affairs, financial planning, research metrics, student success, and clinical operations.

    • Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) and tracking mechanisms to monitor the impact of

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Business Analytics, Information Systems, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.

  • 3+ years of experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or process improvement.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.

  • Strong ability to analyze and document business processes and system requirements.

  • Experience working with Power BI, Microsoft Power Platform, SQL, Tableau, or other reporting tools.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with IT and business units.

  • Experience in a higher education or healthcare setting.

  • Familiarity with cloud-based enterprise solutions (e.g., ERP, CRM, or data warehouse platforms).

  • Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $68,200.00 - $102,300.00.
