Job Family Description

Medical services roles encompass a variety of positions involved in providing occupational healthcare services, clinical support, drug and alcohol testing oversight, and patient care within a clinical setting. Professionals in these roles deliver quality patient care, support medical staff, track trending problem areas/events, manage technical programs and ensure the efficient operation of healthcare facilities.

Discipline Description

Medical information personnel prepare and maintain patient clinical records. They are responsible for organizing, maintaining, and updating patient occupational medical records in accordance with legal and regulatory standards. They ensure accuracy, confidentiality, and accessibility of medical information for healthcare providers, site employees and administrative staff. They also schedule surveillance physical appointments. Additionally, they may assist in retrieving and compiling medical and occupational health data. Other responsibilities include program interface management, medical database development and testing.

Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include:

Perform diversifed duties in support of maintaining hard copy medical files and associated electronic medical files and databases.

Stay knowledgeable and up-to-date on the medical departments procedures and training.

Maintain medical records for all individuals undergoing physical/health evalations at Site Medical. This includes tasks such as:
* Filing test results, summaries, x-rays, blood chemistries, and related correspondence, forwarding records to physicans for chart review and mailing lab results.
* Analyzing medical records within the electronic medical records system for completion of content.
* Preparing records for indexing in the Electronic Document Workflow System (EDWS), performing quality assurance checks for legibility and importing the scanned image into EDWS.
* Reviewing employment reports and ensuring that the medical records for that individual's employment status change is updated

Enter employee data in the electronic medical record which includes (but not limited to) demographics and test results.

Handle release of medical record requests. Obtain medical data from outside agencies as needed by site physicians and copy and release health information within department policy as requested.

Schedule medical appointments that are requested via phone call or email.

Perform receptionist duties:
* Greet employees entering Site Medical and direct them to the proper service area.
* Oversee patient flow through Site Medical to minimize lost time.
* Prepare charts for upcoming medical appointments.
* Ensure the electronic medical record is prepped for the medical appointment and all appropriate medical forms at the front desk are maintained.

Utilize equipment such as computers, fax machines, copiers, and other office related equipment and supplies.

Type, receive, sort, file, and perform quality assurance checks in regards to a wide variety of health information that includes confidential medical information.

Produce and type a variety of correspondences. Attend scheduled meetings.

Receive, open, sort, and distribute mail and information to proper person, place, or file.

Establish and maintain files and logs and prepare reports.

Other duties as directed by manager.

* Bachelor's degree in relevant field
* Equivalencies to experience and education requirements will be considered

Relevant experience (within the last three years) working with health information databases and processing medical records within a healthcare facility or physician's office.

Ability to complete the core elements of the Medical training plan.

Experience and practical working knowledge of electronic medical records.

An understanding of basic medical terminology.

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug & alcohol test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance. This list of factors is not exhaustive; pre-employment information and security clearance requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
