The opportunity

The Campus Accessibility Center is seeking a Student Access Leader (SAL) to support the implementation of accommodations for students with disabilities and promote an inclusive, accessible campus environment. This role provides a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in practicing and promoting disability etiquette within the educational setting while developing essential professional skills aligned with the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Career Readiness Competencies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drive the SNHU access van (Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.), ensuring timely, safe transport of students with mobility disabilities.
  • Answer phones, schedule appointments, and relay information effectively and respectfully to students, staff, and faculty and provide other administrative support.

Competency: Communication and Professionalism

  • Assist with testing accommodations by serving as a proctor, scribe, or reader for exams, using clear and respectful communication to support student needs while upholding the security and integrity of the testing process.

Competency: Communication and Professionalism

  • Support students with note-taking accommodations by accurately capturing and organizing class content and using office technology to photocopy and scan notes to ensure timely and accessible delivery.

  • Assist with special projects under the guidance of the Disabilities Specialist, particularly for special events.

Competency: Critical Thinking

  • Practice and promote disability etiquette while helping to foster a welcoming and supportive environment for students with diverse needs.

Competency: Equity & Inclusion

  • Serve as a peer role model and support the goals of the Campus Accessibility Center by demonstrating initiative, reliability, and accountability.

Competency: Leadership

  • Collaborate with staff, faculty, and fellow SALs to ensure students receive timely and appropriate accommodations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate Day program at SNHU
  • Must have a valid driver's license, clean driving record, and pass the SNHU driving check.
  • Must be able to physically assist students with loading securing, and unloading from the access van as needed.
  • Willingness to sign and abide by a confidentiality agreement
  • Positive attitude, empathy, and a desire to help fellow students
  • Dependable, eager to learn, and committed to upholding accessibility best practices

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in MS-Word, MS-Office (Excel, Access) a plus

Work Hours: Office Hours: Monday - Friday between 8:00am - 4:30pm. Van driver hours may include 7:30am - 5:00pm. Maximum of 20 hours per week.

Compensation

The hourly pay range for this position is $12.00 - $15.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
