Job Purpose

Straughan is hiring a full-time Stormwater and Wastewater Management Specialist for Environmental Compliance at a client research campus in Hampton, Virginia. This position supports compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations. The specialist ensures adherence to MS4, VPDES, and HRSD permits through field inspections, sampling, reporting, and coordination with regulatory agencies.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Review and implement stormwater and wastewater permits and plans
  • Conduct field inspections, sampling, and implement corrective actions as needed
  • Prepare and submit permit applications, reports, and regulatory documentation
  • Ensure compliance with TMDL, SWPPP, and IDDE requirements
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external regulatory agencies
  • Provide training and lead public outreach efforts in alignment with MS4 requirements
Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Environmental/Chemical/Civil/Mechanical Engineering

Experience:

  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in stormwater and wastewater management
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable regulations and best practices for managing stormwater and wastewater systems
  • Experience assessing permit applicability, conducting inspections, implementing corrective actions, and preparing regulatory documentation
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating water quality sampling and laboratory analysis to ensure compliance with permit requirements
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and effective communication abilities

Desired Qualifications

  • Virginia DEQ ESC/SWM Inspector or Plan Reviewer
  • Familiarity with HRSD permit compliance and sampling protocols
