On-Site Role: Must be available to work on-site at this assigned work location.

Emergency Response: Yes - Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE's emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

Job Summary

Nuclear Security Officers are responsible for providing protection against the theft of special nuclear material, acts of radiological sabotage and other threats against the facility. This will be achieved by following applicable federal regulations, implementing the Fermi 2 physical security plan and following all security procedures. A Nuclear Security officer may be required to utilize use of force techniques, up to and including deadly force if necessary.

Key Accountabilities
  1. Respond to potential threats, hostile attacks, fires, civil disturbances and medical emergencies as directed.
  2. Perform searches and observations of personnel and vehicles accessing protected and vital areas.
  3. Provide access control to Fermi 2 for authorized personnel, material, and vehicles to protected and vital areas.
  4. Provide armed response to alarms in vital, protected, and owner-controlled areas.
  5. Operate, test, and monitor various security-related equipment.
  6. Participate in training drills and exercises required by federal regulations and security procedures.
  7. Prepare incident reports and conduct preliminary investigations.
  8. Perform all security related duties as assigned by supervision.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Meet suitability requirements for nuclear security personnel in accordance with 10CFR73.55 Appendix B, (background, physical, emotional, criminal history).
  • Must satisfactorily complete initial and annual training and certification in accordance with Fermi 2 security plans and programs.
  • Must initially and annually demonstrate proficiency in the safe handling and firing
  • of various firearms in accordance with Fermi 2 security plans and programs.
  • Experience with keyboard typing, word processing.
  • Demonstrate the ability to make sound decisions under pressure with limited supervisory oversight and effectively prioritize and complete assigned tasks within time constraints.
  • Must maintain high integrity and professionalism at all times.
  • Must be consistently at work and on time with required equipment.
  • Must be flexible to work shifts as assigned (weekends, holidays, and extended hours).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience as a Nuclear Security Officer.
  • Pervious Military or Law Enforcement experience.
  • Previous training or familiarization with firearms.
