MISSION STATEMENT

SUMMARY/PRIMARY PURPOSE: To checkout customers, accept and sort donations from donors, and stock items for purchase in the Thrift Store.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.



  • Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the position.
  • Responsible for working at the Cash Register.
  • Will sort and price clothes and bric-a-brac.
  • Will help to maintain a well-organized and clean store including but not limited to bathrooms, back room, etc.
  • Will vacuum, clean, and organize the store as needed.
  • Responsible to assist in creating a pleasant and hospitable work environment and maintain good customer relationships.
  • Be well versed in, and ensure compliance to, all established Salvation Army Family Store and Donation Center policies and procedures, by all store personnel.
  • Responsible to make sure that the store is well stocked and all merchandise is rotated and organized in accordance with Salvation Army policy.
  • Will open and close store when needed.
  • Responsible for the proper accounting and banking of cash receipts at end of business day. Safeguard cash at all times.
  • Ensure that all paper work and sales reports are filled out completely.
  • Responsible for protection of property and buildings. Report safety hazards, property damage and personal injuries to Administrator, Store Supervisor, or designate.
  • Comply with the established standards, policies, and procedures of The Salvation Army. A Christian witness and attitude to be presented at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Prefer at least 6 months related experience in a retail environment.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: None

COMPUTER/PROGRAM SKILLS:

Able to operate cash register and complete paperwork. Prior experience using Microsoft Word and Excel would be preferred. Basic computer knowledge is needed to access time clock and personal information via a web-based system.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

English proficiency sufficient for communication with supervisors, co-workers, clients and customers. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to operate cash register and complete paperwork.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

Must pass all applicable background checks. English proficiency sufficient for communication with supervisors, co-workers, clients and customers.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Be able to lift 15-25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally. Standing is required a majority of the time with sitting being rare outside of breaks. Close, distance, color and peripheral vision are needed.
