Job Summary
Join 92NY Athletics as a Tennis Instructor for children ages 5-12! We are looking for enthusiastic, patient, and experienced instructors to work with young players in a supportive and engaging after-school environment. Program runs from September 2025 - January 2026, with an option to extend from February - June 2026. Mandatory training sessions will be held prior to the start of the program.
We are hiring for the following roles:
Lead Instructor - Experienced tennis instructors who have worked with children and taught tennis to various age groups. Assistant Instructor - Individuals with a basic understanding of tennis and prior experience working with children.
Job Responsibilities Include
Ensure the safety and well-being of children during tennis lessons with session group sizes of 6-12 children.
- Plan and implement age-appropriate tennis drills and activities that foster skill development and promote fun.
- Encourage positive behavior and sportsmanship, helping children develop teamwork, confidence, and communication skills.
- Support children's emotional and social growth through sports.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and report any concerns to a supervisor promptly.
- Assist with daily transitions, including arrival, dismissal, and rest periods.
- Create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all participants.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians, providing updates and ensuring a smooth program experience.
- Keep the tennis courts and surrounding areas clean, organized, and safe.
- Model positive behavior and help children adjust to new challenges.
Experience, Education, & Skills Desired
- High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred (especially in Physical Education or related field).
- Prior experience teaching tennis to children or coaching youth tennis programs is required. Candidates should have a solid understanding of tennis fundamentals and the ability to teach and modify techniques for various age groups.
- Demonstrated experience working with children aged 5-12, preferably in an athletic or recreational environment. Background in youth sports or after-school programs is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage and motivate children in a positive inclusive manner. Proven ability collaborative effectively with parents, supervisors, and staff to ensure a supportive and positive experience for all participants.
- Must possess patience and adaptability when working with children of varying skill levels and learning styles with the ability to adjust lesson plans in real time to maintain engagement and support effective learning.
- Collaborate with other instructors and staff to foster a cohesive team environment, ensuring a smooth program and a positive experience for both the children and parents.
- Strong organizational skills to manage lesson plans, attendance, and group transitions. Ability to keep track of multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills to navigate classroom dynamics, address behavioral challenges, and tailor lessons to meet individual needs.
- CPR certification is preferred. Candidates with relevant certifications (e.g., USPTA, PTR) or those who are willing to obtain them are encouraged to apply.
Work Environment & Requirements
After-school sessions: Monday - Friday, 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM Potential opportunity for additional work from February - June, with extended hours for private lessons, weekend clinics, and special events. Per Diem Compensation Range $27 - $35/hour The actual compensation offered will be based on a number of factors including, but not limited to the qualifications of the applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
