Job Description

Summary

The iHydrant Product Engineer plays a critical role in the design, development, and continuous improvement of smart hydrant technologies. This position leads engineering projects from concept through production, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure product performance, manufacturability, and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong CAD skills, a passion for innovation, and a commitment to excellence in engineering.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned

1st Responsibility - Ensuring personal safety and the safety of team members.

  • Wears appropriate PPE, which may include fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, foot, hand, head and eye protection.
  • Proactively promotes The McWane Way principles.

Design & Development

  • Manage assigned engineering design projects from concept to prototype to production.
  • Design new iHydrant components and other products as directed.
  • Create detailed CAD/Engineering documentation for all projects.
  • Produce assembly instructions for new product designs.
  • Prepare product objectives and schedules for all phases of product development and introduction to manufacturing.

Testing & Validation

  • Fabricate, assemble, and test prototypes to verify performance of design criteria.
  • Conduct engineering-related tests and experiments.
  • Record test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes.
  • Conduct Failure Analysis evaluations on defective products.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work collaboratively in a team environment and with a spirit of cooperation.
  • Collaborate with Valve & Hydrant Lead Engineer, V&H engineering departments, and iHydrant Management.
  • Participate in overall product strategy, research, and development of new and emerging products.
  • Accompany iHydrant Field Service Engineers to evaluate products and procedures.
  • Travel to M&H Valve site locations to work with iHydrant Assembly technicians and audit processes.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Process Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and ensure implementation.
  • Complete special projects by clarifying objectives, setting timelines, conducting research, and organizing information.
  • Proactively promote The McWane Way principles.

Qualifications

A self-starter with the ability to take an assigned project with limited input and direction and achieve the desired goal from concept to production is essential. Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Industrial manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
  • CAD expertise is preferred, including 3D modeling using SolidWorks, ProE, or AutoCAD Inventor.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, including dimensions and tolerances.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook required; PowerPoint and project management software preferred.
  • Experience with metalworking manufacturing is a plus.

Language Skills

Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Should be able to speak effectively to customers, management, and fellow employees.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with various concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Ability to interpret various instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
