Job Summary

The 4th Year Extern Audiology scope of practice for this position will include; The performance of diagnostic and therapeutic audiological services on patients birth to adult who have, or wish to rule out hearing loss as the source of their communication disorders.

This would include hearing aid dispensing and fitting of assistive technology when appropriate. The performance of diagnostic vestibular evaluations on patients who wish to rule out peripheral vestibulopathy as the source of imbalance. The programming and diagnostic evaluation of pediatric cochlear implant patients.

All services will be provided under the supervision of a licensed audiologist serving as the 4th year Extern preceptor at the Callier-Dallas and Callier-Richardson locations. This position will start on June 1, 2026, and end on May 31, 2027.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree; currently in the fourth year of an Doctor of Audiology (AuD) program from an accredited institution; meet the academic and clinical requirements for licensure in the discipline of Audiology.

  • Experience in electrophysiology testing including electrocochleography (ECOG) and auditory brainstem response (ABR) testing.
  • Experience in Videonystagmography (VNG), Rotational Chair testing, and Video Head Impulse Testing (VHIT).
  • Able and willing to work with and communicate in an empathetic, confidential, and professional manner to patients.

Other Qualifications
To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.

  • Familiar with and performs all standard audiological procedures for birth through adult population under the supervision of a licensed audiologist
  • Routinely obtains knowledge of new procedures and integrates that knowledge into daily duties.
  • Recommends and dispenses appropriate amplification and assistive listening devices for a school-aged through adult population.
  • Performs videonystagmography (VNG) evaluations, VEMP testing, and rotational chair testing and makes appropriate referrals under the supervision of a licensed audiologist.
