The Driving Safety Research Institute (DSRI) is seeking part-time hourly positions to support data collection (anticipated 10-35 hours per week). Position length is six months depending on project funding. Start date as soon as possible. The National Advanced Driving Simulator is housed within DSRI and is the nation's leading simulator facility doing research on new automotive technology and driving safety. We conduct human factors research into driving behaviors such as distracted driving, impaired driving, and how people interact with advanced vehicle safety systems. We are currently looking for temporary staff members to assist with data collection on several driving simulator research studies. Data collection supportduties include:
- Prepping study supplies
- Interacting with participants during their visit
- Administering questionnaires
- Recording and reviewing data
- Test driving in the simulator
- Monitor participants from the back seat of a vehicle or a remote location during simulated drives
Applicants must be comfortable following a defined timeline, multi-tasking, working independently, talking to research participants, communicating via email, and working one-on-one with people including participants who are under the influence of alcohol. Applicants also need to be able to precisely follow instructions and understand the importance of confidentiality/privacy. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint and Outlook (or similar applications) and excellent written and verbal English communication are required. Applicants should have flexibility with their schedule based on study needs. Hours for shifts vary based on study visit type and range from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. (daytime, evening, and overnight shifts) and may include weekends or days with longer shifts. Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and be able to pass University of Iowa fleet safety standards for driving University vehicles which requires a clean driving record. Prior research experience working with human subjects and use of REDCap desired but not required.
