Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) has an opportunity for a nationally recognized surgeon to serve as Chair of Surgery at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln. Lincoln Medical Center is a bustling 362-bed acute care hospital and the busiest Level I Trauma Center in the Northeast and third busiest in the country. It offers comprehensive primary, specialty, and advanced surgical services, with Centers of Excellence in all medical specialties, including its award-winning Cancer and NAPBC-accredited Breast Centers and an established robotic surgery program. The Department of Surgery is a large, multispecialty enterprise of more than 80 surgeons and advanced practice providers across 14 divisions, delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to the Downtown Bronx community. Opportunity Details:

  • Leada large, multispecialty Department of Surgery, of more than 80 surgeons, advanced practice providers, and support staff, overseeing clinical care, education, and research across divisions including Emergency General Surgery, Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, Breast Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Urology, Neurosurgery, Pediatric Surgery, Hand and Plastic Surgery, Otolaryngology, Ophthalmology, and Podiatry.
  • Providestrategic oversight of all departmental functions, including performance management of clinical staff, budgeting, capital planning, and resource allocation.
  • Collaboratewith Chiefs of Service, nursing leadership, and administrative teams to achieve institutional goals and optimize departmental operations.
  • Promoteand maintain high-quality graduate and continuing medical education programs, including oversight of the ACGME - accredited General Surgery Residency Program (3 categorical residents per year and 8 preliminary residency positions), the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship, and rotating residents in Urology, Orthopedics, and ENT.
  • Developand grow advanced surgical programs, including robotic, minimally invasive, and hybrid approaches to complex surgical diseases.
  • Participatein enterprise-wide leadership initiatives and represent the department on key hospital and system committees.
  • Ensuredepartmental compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, along with internal hospital policies.
  • Championa culture of patient safety, interdisciplinary teamwork, and continuous quality improvement through effective communication and leadership.
  • Providedirect patient care as designated by hospital leadership and serve as a role model in upholding the department's core values.
  • Leadwith a focus on equity, inclusion, faculty mentorship, and recruitment, creating an environment where all faculty, trainees, and team members can thrive.
Qualifications
  • BoardCertification in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery.
  • Activeand Unrestricted New York State Physician License.
  • Active DEA registration.
  • Demonstrated experience in departmental leadership and oversight of clinical operations, education, research, budgeting, and personnel.
  • Proven track record in mentoring faculty, medical education, and strategic departmental growth.
  • Experience in managing surgical quality improvement initiatives and clinical excellenceprograms (e.g., NSQIP, STS, UNOS, VQUI).
  • Strongcommunication, collaboration, and change-management skills aligned with institutional goals.
  • Commitmentto fostering equity, diversity, and inclusion in both clinical and academic settings.

Wages and Benefits include:

Annual Base Salary: $499,000* based on 40-hour work week.

The annual total value of compensation package is estimated at $584,000** which includes the baseline salary, 401(k) contribution, and other factors as set forth below:

  • Projected bonus of up to $50,000 (based on previous year's average), contingent upon meeting quality and productivity targets.
  • 401(k)Company Contribution (subject to IRS contribution limits):
    • Employeesare immediately vested in a 3% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required.
    • After one year of service, employees receive an additional 7% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required.
  • Annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) Reimbursement.
  • Generous Annual Paid Time Off (PTO): Vacation, Sick, Holiday, and CME days.
  • Medical, Prescription, and Dental Coverage: Top-tier plans with employee contributions significantly below market rates.
  • Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Coverage: Equal to 2x your salary (up to a maximum of $300,00) provided at no cost to you.
    • Additional employee-paid Voluntary Life and AD&D coverage is available for you and your family.
  • Medical Malpractice Coverage (equivalent to occurrence-based): Provided at no cost to the employee.
