Overview The Senior Specialist is responsible for providing environmental, health & safety (EH&S) support to the Shared Services organizations to ensure that work activities, including construction, waste management, field operations (e.g., warehousing, automotive repairs, facilities management, fleet operations) maintenance and retirement of our energy systems, are conducted in a safely manner that complies with all federal, state and local regulations in addition to Company procedures and protocols. Work closely with Operations personnel to support the Company's commitment to Environment, Health and Safety Excellence. Facilitates efforts to achieve a zero harm and 100% compliance culture.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Provide support, advice, counsel and information on EH&S matters to all levels within the operating organizations we support.
- Lead and participate in incident investigations for various types of EH&S incidents, such as injuries, illnesses, motor vehicle collisions, Time Outs, Rules We Live By, and ensure the Safety and Health Information Management System (SHIMS) is updated and contains relevant investigation documentation.
- Assist in the development, coordination and implementation of EH&S-related programs, such as Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), hazard assessments, Job Site Safety Exchanges (JSSEs), SPCC plans, Hazardous Waste Management and Contingency plans, Respiratory Protection Plans, Hearing Conservation Plans and Risk Management Plans and Environmental, Health and Safety issues.
- Communicate EH&S-related information at business and safety meetings, in the field and through safety talks and tail-board sessions.
- Conduct periodic self-assessments / EHSEH&S inspections to prevent non-compliance.
- Work to integrate and promote human performance initiatives into our work practices to achieve operating excellence and prevent incidents that may result in injury, environmental issues, vehicle collisions, and equipment damage or other impact.
- Support the company's response to environmental incidents such as spills and releases so that reporting, cleanup, response operations and waste management are conducted safely and in compliance with all regulatory and company requirements.
- Provide guidance for proper waste characterization, and support maintaining environmental compliance with waste management and manifesting of universal, hazardous and nonhazardous waste requirements.
- Perform reviews and for acceptance of environmental, health, and safety plans (eHASPs).
- Willingness to travel or report to various company locations, as required.
- Perform other related assignments as required, including response to emergencies 24 hours/ 7 days a week.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- High School Diploma/GED and 8 years of relevant experience or
- Associate's Degree and 5 years of relevant experience or
- Bachelor's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience or
- Master's Degree and 3 years of relevant experience
Preferred Education/Experience
- High School Diploma/GED in a related discipline and 8 years of operating experience with 3 years of relevant EHS experience EHS: Asbestos, hazwaste knowledge, OSHA knowledge
Relevant Work Experience
- Completion of Company CEHSEHSP program as soon as possible. Successful completion of position-specific EH&S training as applicable, required.

- 2 years Must demonstrate proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets and/or an ability to quickly become proficient with database packages including Microsoft Office, EMIS, SHIMS, and Maximo, required.
- 2 years Must have strong EHSEH&S knowledge in asbestos, OSHA requirements, and HazWaste/Environmental regulation, required.
- Safety and environmental incident response, required.
- Must possess strong leadership skills, initiate and champion change, and have the ability to influence and persuade others in order to improve work practices/processes.
- Must Should be able to develop concepts into successful safety and environmental programs, preferred.

Physical Demands
- Ability to respond to system emergencies
- Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
- Ability to work in adverse conditions that include, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations
- Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
- Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
- Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
- Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
Additional Physical Demands
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Position requires extensive walking, stair and ladder climbing.
- Must be physically able to wear a respirator and work in difficult environments (heat, noise and confined spaces).
- Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
- Must be available to respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis.
