JOB MISSION:
New Balance is seeking a Technical Product Owner to lead the strategy, development, and delivery of our APIs, microservices and integration ecosystem within the DTC Digital Product Management team. This role is pivotal in advancing our digital transformation and delivering APIs, microservices and integrations that are of high quality, robust, scalable, and developer friendly.

As a Technical Product Owner, you will work cross-functionally with global business stakeholders, IT, engineers, solution architects, and digital product teams to define and execute a strategic roadmap for microservices and distributed systems. Your focus will be on designing and delivering modular, scalable services that power both internal operations and third-party retail integrations. You'll be responsible for translating complex business requirements into decomposed, service-oriented architectures, ensuring seamless interoperability and integration across New Balance's digital ecosystem.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Serve as the subject matter expert on microservices architecture, driving the design and evolution of modular, scalable, and reusable services that support business and technical objectives.

  • Provide and maintain shared libraries, API gateway, and application starter kits as part of the microservices product portfolio.

  • Champion the product vision and strategy for microservices, aligning with enterprise architecture and engineering goals. Develop and maintain product roadmaps and business cases that support long-term platform scalability and agility.

  • Lead the ideation, development, and deployment of new microservices, starting with minimum viable capabilities and scaling based on validated business and technical outcomes.

  • Manage the full product lifecycle for microservices-from discovery and design through development, testing, deployment, and continuous improvement.

  • Translate product vision into actionable deliverables, including epics, user stories, and technical requirements. Prioritize features and manage backlogs in collaboration with engineering and architecture teams.

  • Define and track success metrics for microservices, including performance, reliability, adoption, and business impact. Use data to inform prioritization and iteration.

  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration across engineering, DevOps, security, and business teams to ensure alignment, transparency, and timely delivery.

  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders such as IT, data science, compliance, and digital operations to ensure microservices meet enterprise standards and support cross-team integration.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESS:

  • Experience with service-oriented architecture (SOA) and microservices, including designing, deploying, and managing distributed systems that support scalability, resilience, and modularity.

  • Experience with event-driven architecture, publisher/subscriber patterns, and API gateway and management products in a cloud-based environment.

  • Experience delivering shared and reusable libraries as part of a technical team's product portfolio.

  • Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to confidently present technical and strategic recommendations and build trust across engineering, architecture, and business teams.

  • Excellent product judgment, with a deep understanding of how microservices impact user experience, system performance, and business agility.

  • Detail-oriented mindset, capable of identifying critical architectural and functional elements while making pragmatic trade-offs to deliver value quickly.

  • Strategic thinker with a solid grasp of platform and infrastructure trends, and the ability to anticipate how evolving technologies will shape service ecosystems.

  • Proficient in Agile methodologies, with hands-on experience leading cross-functional teams in Scrum or Kanban environments.

  • Natural leadership abilities, with a track record of guiding teams through ambiguity, aligning stakeholders, and driving delivery in complex technical environments.

  • Exceptional communication skills, able to translate technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Creative problem-solver, energized by solving architectural and operational challenges at both the system and service level.

  • Educational background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field required; MBA or advanced degree is a plus.
