Responsibilities:
- This role is responsible for reviewing daily network equipment installation requests at data centers. This includes approving requests after an in-depth review of all available Power, Space, and Cooling systems ("PSC") within a data center. The Engineer will utilize existing enterprise-wide tools and documents to review and then approve or reject requests within specified timeframes. This position works under the direct supervision of PSC Capacity Engineers and will be assigned a portfolio of facilities within a specific territory.
MUST HAVE SKILLS:
- A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in data center engineering, operations, critical facilities management, or a similar mission-critical infrastructure environment is essential, with a strong focus on PSC. Experience working collaboratively with PSC Capacity Planners on system design and implementation projects is highly desirable.
- Extensive experience with Data Center Layout Optimization. Optimizing the data center layout is crucial for maximizing efficiency, scalability, and performance. This includes the strategic placement of servers, storage systems, and networking equipment to enhance airflow and power distribution. The engineer actively manages rack unit fragmentation to ensure optimal space utilization and facilitate future equipment deployments, preventing wasted space. Responsible for daily updates to floor plans, rack layouts and power assignments since they are essential to maintain accurate documentation and facilitate efficient operations.
- Extensive knowledge of AC/DC power distribution systems (UPS, Generators, ATS, Switchgear, PDUs, RPPs, BDFB, BDCBB, overhead bus ducting).
- Extensive experience with managing and optimizing overhead bus ducting (busways/busbars) systems for efficient, flexible, and scalable power delivery to server racks, recognizing their advantages over traditional cabling in terms of improved airflow and long-term cost-efficiency.
- Extensive knowledge of NEMA receptacle types as utilized in a data center environment.
- Extensive experience in selecting and sizing equipment fuses & circuit breakers including assignments and secondary power feed cable sizing.
- Extensive experience with HVAC systems, CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, pumps and cooling towers. Solid understanding of airflow management principles, hot/cold aisle containment, and cooling zones.
- Strong Familiarity with DCIM software such as Sunbird DC Track or similar.
- Strong familiarity with fiber/copper structured cabling systems required to provide physical connectivity within a data center environment.
- Analytical & Problem-Solving: Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting abilities are required to diagnose and resolve complex electrical, mechanical, and control system issues efficiently. Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail is critical in all aspects of work, including documentation, equipment installation, and adherence to maintenance procedures, given the precision required in a data center environment.
- Communication & Collaboration: Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse cross-functional teams (Planning Teams, facilities, vendors) and provide clear, concise technical guidance to various stakeholders.
- Adaptability & Learning: The ability to adapt quickly to evolving technologies and industry best practices is crucial, alongside a commitment to continuous learning and professional development in a rapidly changing field.
- Teamwork & Ownership: A strong team player with the ability to work independently, take ownership of tasks, and proactively identify and resolve issues without constant supervision is highly valued.
- Time Management: Excellent time management and organizational skills are necessary to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced, 24/7 critical environment, often under pressure.
- Strong knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC).
- AutoCad Experience.
DESIRED SKILLS:
- Extensive experience with PSC Resource Forecasting and Balancing. The engineer leads the critical process of balancing the supply of data center resources-including power, cooling, IT equipment rack space, physical floor space, and networking connectivity-with demand. This ensures PSC resources are neither underutilized nor overburdened, maintaining optimal performance and efficiency.
