Summary of Position: Ferris State University's Kendall College of Art and Design (KCAD) in Grand Rapids, MI prepares artists and designers to have impact through practice. Responsibilities for a KCAD adjunct faculty member include syllabus and class preparation, instruction during scheduled course time, providing reasonable availability to students for consultation and assistance with respect to assigned course(s), evaluation of student performance, submission of mid-term and final grades on the FSU Banner system, and archiving of both course material and student work as requested by the program chair and/or the Dean of the College.

The Interior Design Program seeks to cultivate interior designers who are engaged in innovative and creative human-centered solutions that contribute to the advancement of the profession. We are looking for a designer that can help us teach the next generation about the design process and to share the skills of the profession in the classroom.

The program is seeking candidates for a broad range of interior design studio courses within an established curriculum. The teaching assignment is based upon skill, demonstrated competency, and depth of understanding of the design process and the profession. Courses are to be taught in person on FSU's KCAD campus in Grand Rapids, MI. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment. The anticipated start date of this position is August 2025.

Required Education: Master's degree in a related field to content being taught
or:
Master's degree in unrelated field and additional minimum of 18 graduate credits in a field related to the content being taught
or:
A bachelor's degree in a related field to content being taught, a minimum of six years of experience working in the field of industry of the content area being taught, and a combination of:
Evidence of recognized accomplishment in area being taught, including awards, bibliography of publication referencing design or art work or scholarship or;
Evidence of scholarly/creative accomplishment in terms of completed design work, patents, exhibitions, presentations, publication, and juried recognition at the regional, national and international level or;
Evidence of service to the field in terms of memberships on committees or boards of professional organizations and other contributions to the field or;
NCIDQ certification
Required Work Experience: Minimum of 2 years professional experience in the design of residential and/or commercial design fields.
Experience with instruction, training, and/or team leadership.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered:
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Prepare syllabus and class according to KCAD standards and distribute syllabi.
Teach appropriate course(s) as assigned.
Assess and evaluate student learning and provide formative feedback throughout the course.
Provide reasonable availability to students for consultation and assistance with respect to assigned course.
Evaluate and record student performance.
Submit midterm and final grades on the FSU Banner system.
Archive both course material and student work as requested by program chair and/or the Dean of the College.
Work collaboratively with faculty, students and staff throughout the college.
Cultivate an environment of belonging that values, respects, supports, and celebrates individual similarities and differences, allowing students, faculty, and staff to thrive authentically.
Support, promote, and develop University student enrollment and retention initiatives.
Perform any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
Marginal Duties/Responsibilities:
Skills and Abilities: Ability to communicate clearly and efficiently.
Extensive knowledge of the design process.
Ability to create and interpret architectural plans.
Knowledge and expertise in industry specific software. i.e. AutoCAD, SketchUp Pro, Revit
Hand drawing and/or rendering skills.
Expertise in standard architectural drawing conventions.
Knowledge of codes in the built environment.
Knowledge of presentation software.
Demonstrated commitment, experience, and understanding for diversity, equity and inclusion.

Special Instructions to Applicants: Cover letter clearly identifying your skills, demonstrated competencies, and depth of understanding in areas such as the design process, hand rendering, construction documentation, industry software programs, building codes, and various project typologies.

Unofficial Transcript 1(Required): Applicants must attach a copy of unofficial transcripts of degree as described in the Required Education section. Transcripts must include: Institution name, applicant name, date degree attained, and degree awarded. Finalists will be required to submit an official transcript.

Candidates that do not have a Master's degree will be required to have a combination of experience and accomplishment as outlined under the Required Education section. This combination must be clearly documented in your curriculum vitae/resume and application materials in order for the search committee to determine if candidates meet the required qualifications. For example, in order to determine if there is a minimum of six years of experience in the area being taught, the curriculum vitae/resume must clearly list dates of employment and all applicable experience should be listed. Evidence of recognized accomplishment, scholarly/creative accomplishment and service in the field must be detailed.

Portfolio 1 (Required): Professional portfolio containing examples of sketching, rendering, hand drawing, and digital presentation skills.
