The Center for Advanced Intestinal Rehabilitation is seeking a Clinical Research Assistant to contribute to day-to-day study operations, coordinate participant engagement, collect and manage clinical data, and collaborate with our interdisciplinary team comprised of gastroenterology and surgical clinicians and team members. The aim of the study involves determining if a 4% Tetrasodium (EDTA) catheter lock solution is more effective than heparin lock (standard of care) in preventing central venous catheter occlusions and bloodstream infections in children with intestinal failure and short bowel syndrome. The Center for Advanced Intestinal Rehabilitation and Home Parenteral Nutrition Program at Boston Children's Hospital is the biggest program of its kind and is a major site in this crucial 52-week multi-center randomized controlled trial. Currently, we have recruited 21 subjects to the study at our site. Overall, the study is more than 50% to the planned recruitment goal of 124 subjects. Prior knowledge of intestinal failure, short bowel syndrome and/or parenteral nutrition management is not needed. In leading this study, your work will directly contribute to improving care outcomes for children with intestinal failure/short bowel syndrome and advancing knowledge in this under-researched area.
