HJF is seeking a Senior Research Associate to perform research and/or development in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff. Exercise technical discretion in the design, execution, and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project strategies. Provide training and guidance for lower-level Research Associates and laboratory staff.

This position will be in support of the DoD/USU Brain Tissue Repository in the Department of Pathology at the Uniformed Services University. Its mission is to better understand the effects of traumatic brain injury and related neurodegenerative conditions, and promote overall brain health of the Warfighter. Using the best science, they support Service Members and their families to help care for military personnel after a head injury.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

* Develops methods and procedures for experiments and investigations, in consultation with scientific staff.
* Performs complex data analysis and interpretation, verifies and corrects data entry.
* Performs complex laboratory tests, determinations, and analyses involving multiple procedures and a variety of technical approaches.
* Provides support to the BTR Histology Division for special projects, as needed.
* Analyzes and prepares reagent and/or assay product documentation. Organizes and procures needed reagents, performs experiments, analyzes data, and documents results.
* Writes and assists with experimental results for publication in technical and peer-reviewed journals
* Mentors, reviews, and supervises junior laboratory staff in the planning, execution, and analysis of experiments.
* May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Education and Experience



  • Master's Degree required.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years experience required.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Knowledge of extremely complex laboratory procedures and experience with management of said procedures.
  • Knowledge of histology and immunohistochemistry procedures, as well as experience with developing new technologies to support specialized research projects.
  • Ability to meet deadlines of projects.
  • Good communication and analytical skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background clearance.


Physical Capabilities



  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to sit at a laboratory workbench or computer for prolonged periods.


Work Environment



  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.


Compensation



  • The annual salary range for this position is $88,600 - $110,000. . Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
