Job Description

The AWWA Product Specialist is responsible for the specification growth of M&H Fire Hydrants and Gate Valves in Nevada, Utah and Idaho through the promotion of products to Engineering Firms, Municipalities and other specifying firms.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Understanding Product & Industry:Possess deep knowledge of the company's products, their technical specifications, applications, advantages, and alignment with industry standards and regulations. Also work closely with local M&H Territory Managers located in assigned territory.
  • Market Research:Identify key architectural and engineering firms, understand their project types, client personas, and preferred specification processes. Conduct research to identify new leads and opportunities for product specifications.
  • Relationship Building:Develop and nurture strong relationships with municipalities, engineers, designers, specifiers, and other key decision-makers within targets. Act as a trusted technical advisor rather than solely a salesperson.
  • Providing Solutions:Present how the company's products can effectively solve design challenges, meet project requirements, and align with design goals.
  • Specification Development:Advise and assist engineering and design teams in incorporating the company's products into their project specifications, providing expertise on materials, applications, installation, and compliance.
  • Technical Support:Offer technical advice, answer product-related questions, and provide pre- and post-specification support.
  • Communication & Presentation:Deliver engaging presentations and demonstrations to showcase product benefits and capabilities. Communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats, translating complex technical information for diverse audiences.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Sharing:Ensure product information, specifications, technical data, and case studies are readily available and easily accessible to specifiers
  • Staying Updated:Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies in the relevant market segment.
  • Develops strong communication networks and builds relationships with distributors, engineers, municipalities and industry leaders.
  • Submits routine reports to management highlighting specification efforts
  • Utilize the assigned software program to document customer interactions and opportunity management.
  • Works as liaison between end user, customers, and company on all matters.
  • Informs and trains distributor's salespeople in latest product and marketing information.
  • Participates in trade associations, including assisting with participating in seminars, trade shows, and presentations.
  • Communicates regularly with the Solution Sales Manager and National Sales Manager to monitor needs and concerns within the territory and for allocation of resources.
  • Monitors competition by gathering current marketplace information on products, delivery schedules, marketing techniques, etc.
  • Practices and promotes The McWane Way principles.

Performs various other miscellaneous sales and service-related

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Five years' industrial sales experience required preferably in waterworks industry; or completion of McWane Sales Trainee program.
  • Intermediate proficiency in CRM, Microsoft Word and Excel required.
  • Must be self-motivated and lead self well.
  • Must be able to negotiate and close deals while maintaining a strong customer service attitude.

Driving Record:

Must have a valid driver's license and a clean DMV record of driving that can be insured.

Mechanically Inclined:

Must be physically and visually able to breakdown moderate to complex mechanical products and relate product details to customer and factory.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; Inventory software; Manufacturing software; Order processing systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

This a traditional office position with an expectation of periodic work in facility with exposure to a wide range of temperatures, humid conditions, moving machinery, dust, fumes, gases, odors, vibrations and varying noise levels.

Fieldwork can happen any time of year. Extreme hot and cold weather could come into play. Contact with product under air or water pressure is a possibility. Although rare, possible that employee might have to go into trench box to review product. Extreme noise, fumes or airborne
