What the day will look like

At Aon, the Application IT Manager has responsibility for representing assigned technology service(s) to the rest of the organization and managing a team of technical resources in delivery and collaborating on the strategy. Performs technology management, operations management and working with Product Owners and/or Business colleagues for the services in scope. Partners with the Service Manager on maintaining Total cost of ownership and identifying future resourcing needs. This is a hybrid position working in our Chicago, Illinois or Fort Washtington, Pennsylvania office location.

Responsibilities:
  • Communicates, monitors, and ensures delivery team remains aligned with the business and technical objectives.
  • Ensure we have the right mix of talent, team size, and roles defined to make delivery commitments. Ensure we are following the best methodology that is applicable for the effort.
  • Ensures team stays aligned to architecture design and quality attributes. Collaborates with architects to improve designs and address potential challenges.
  • Enhance team velocity while staying within budget.
  • Collaborates with Business (product owners) on product roadmaps, backlog refinement, technical debt management, and opportunities to use innovative technology.
  • Collaborate with scrum master or project manager in providing methodology training and coaching.
  • Actively identifies and removes blockers before they become problematic.
  • Can take on a variety of technical work including creating / updating technical documentation, design / code reviews, build and deploy tools to enhance productivity, and assist on coding tasks.
  • Champion a collaborative and high-performance team
  • Acts as a proxy in case a particular role cannot be present for a meeting / event.
  • Provide thought leadership to architectural, leadership, and governance councils. Fill in whatever other gaps exist that the team needs.

Skills and experience that will lead to success.

  • Overall 8+ years of Information Technology experience
  • Proven record of accomplishment of at least three years as technical team leader.
  • Deep understanding of agile principles and scrum methodology including the ability to act as a scrum coach.
  • Experience coordinating, planning, and organizing upgrades of systems and technology.
  • Experience with Microsoft .Net technologies (front end and back end)
  • A basic understanding of one or more common databases, Operating systems, Cloud platform etc.
  • Understanding of data security and standard methodologies for balancing availability with security.
  • Responsible for following the standards for internal and external compliance of products and services to licensing, security, and audit framework.
  • Responsible for the Service lifecycle (delivering value, facilitating outcomes to the business, owning cost of providing the service and managing and mitigating related risks)
  • Engages in supplier service reviews including review of metrics and SLAs for both Application Delivery and AMS. (Vendors)
  • Experience working in large scale global corporate environments is preferred.
  • Experience delivering high traffic / high throughput consuming facing web applications.
  • Proficient in Azure DevOps.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems, or related field.

Pay Transparency Laws:

The salary range for this position (intended for U.S. applicants) is $120k-$130k annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.
