Position Summary The Specialist, Benefits is responsible for administering the company's employee benefits programs, including leave of absence administration. The role will function as the subject matter expert and ensure compliance with company policies and regulations. The Specialist, Benefits will provide guidance to employees on program options and eligibility, with a focus on providing exceptional customer service that is both timely and accurate. Essential Functions
- Manage and administer the company's leave of absence program. This includes assessing eligibility, guiding employees in the process, and partnering with the disability/FMLA vendor to process STD, LTD, FMLA, and state mandated leave programs. Effectively collaborate with HR Business Partners and Payroll to ensure timely and accurate processing.
- Perform day-to-day administration of the company's health and welfare benefit programs, including but not limited to medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and flexible spending accounts.
- Review and approve requested benefit elections in the enrollment system. Assess and monitor eligibility to ensure ongoing compliance with plan rules. Investigate discrepancies and escalate as needed. Partner with payroll team to ensure proper benefit deductions are made.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local benefits regulations. Manage completion of Form 5500, distribution of required employee notifications, and ACA reporting.
- Manage the monthly benefits billing process, including verifying carrier invoices, reconciling discrepancies, and coordinating with the finance department to ensure timely and accurate payments.
- Conduct benefits orientation for new employees, open enrollment meetings, as well as ad-hoc benefit trainings. Answer employee questions regarding eligibility, coverage, and policies in a timely manner.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for benefits-related inquiries, resolving employee concerns and providing education on available options. This includes interpreting benefit plan documents and partnering with carriers on escalated items as needed.
- Conduct regular audits of benefits data including enrollment, eligibility, and premium contributions to ensure compliance with plan documents.
- Research and effectively interpret FMLA regulations while staying abreast of changes as they relate to current leaves of absence processes and administration.
- Support annual renewal and open enrollment activities including reviewing communications and enrollment system testing.
- Monitor and support the administration of Retirement benefits, including enrollment, routine funding, and audits.
- Support and coordinate Wellness initiatives, as directed.
- Performs other projects and duties as requested.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration or related area with 3+ years of experience in benefits administration and leave administration required; or
- Associate's degree in business administration or related area with 5+ years of experience in benefit administration and leave administration required; or
- High school diploma with 7+ years of experience in benefit administration and leave administration required.
- Experience working with a benefits administration system required
- Prior experience administering leave of absence for a company with employees in multiple states required
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of benefits and leave of absence laws and regulations, including ERISA, COBRA, ACA, FMLA, and HIPAA, and drive to research laws and regulations for clarification in times of uncertainty and/or as new or revised regulations are passed
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills
- Experience with public speaking; able to present information to employees during orientation, training, and open enrollment
- Ability to clearly explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, throughout all levels of the organization

Working Environment / Physical Environment
- This position works on site in El Segundo, CA.
- Regular work schedule is Monday - Friday, within standard business hours. Flexibility is available with manager approval.
This position is eligible for a discretionary bonus and equity award. The hourly base pay range for this position is below. The specific rate will depend on the successful candidate's qualifications, prior experience as well as geographic location.
