Description

Support operations of Payroll Department using the UKG Pro payroll system. This position will coordinate payroll processing to ensure timely pay, disbursement, and reporting. Must have extensive knowledge of payroll principles, practices, and tax regulations, with an exceptional eye for detail and zero tolerance for errors. This position requires a high degree of confidentiality and the proven ability to work independently, exercising good judgment in a fast-paced, high stress environment. The successful candidate must demonstrate ownership of tasks from start to finish, a commitment to accuracy, and a proactive approach to solving issues before they escalate. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate constructively with both field and corporate teams are essential.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Process bi-weekly payrolls for multiple companies with FICA and RRB taxing authorities
  • Process subsequent payroll activities for CT-1 tax payments and GL postings
  • Carefully review and resolve timekeeping issues in WFD, ensuring corrections are accurate and well-documented
  • Work closely with the field managers to resolve timekeeping variances during the review process
  • Ensure third-party remittances are processed correctly for payment (child support, union dues, taxes, etc)
  • Execute payroll transactions associated with collective bargaining agreements (annual increases, etc)
  • Maintain general ledger activity, payment reconciliation and month-end close processing
  • Collaborate with IT Department regarding system maintenance and enhancements
  • Take initiative to identify process gaps or recurring issues and recommend improvements
  • Respond to payroll inquiries with professionalism, clarity, and follow-through


JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • AA Degree with an emphasis in accounting; Certified Payroll Professional with a minimum of 4 years payroll experience or 8+ years of equivalent work experience
  • Preferred 4+ years of experience in multi-state payroll administration
  • Ability to spot discrepancies early, investigate root causes, and take corrective action independently
  • Meticulous attention to detail, with a proven track record of accurate data entry and error prevention in high-volume payrolls
  • Demonstrated ability to learn from feedback, adapt to change, and maintain composure under pressure
  • Self-Starter who can work with minimal supervision on projects and day-to-day activities


  • Advanced level Excel, Access, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience working with UKG preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Railroad experience preferred, but not required
