Job Description

Manages, plans, organizes, and evaluates the staff and activities for the procurement and distribution of clinical and non clinical materials, supplies, equipment, and instruments.

Job Responsibility




  • Provides leadership to Distribution Operations team members and supervisors by communicating and guiding toward achieving department objectives.
  • Develops, communicates, and builds consensus for goals in alignment with the health system.
  • Manages the activities for the procurement and distribution of clinical and non clinical materials, supplies, equipment, and instruments for all operational areas.
  • Develops and maintains productive working relationships with the health systems Materials Management, vendors, staff, and administration to support efficient materials operations; addresses and resolves materials operations issues.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates policies and procedures for maintaining the quality, security and adequate flow of materials.
  • Maintains a record keeping the health system to track purchasing, receiving, distribution, maintenance, inventory, and cost of all materials, supplies and equipment; establishes and maintains par levels of materials; prepares inventory and cost reports, as necessary.
  • Ensures oxygen, nitrogen, and nitrous gases are maintained at appropriate levels; researches information for cost benchmarking to identify cost reduction opportunities.
  • Identifies instruments and equipment in need of repair or replacement and manages process with manufacturers; ensures appropriate orders are placed for replacement and/or returns and arranges for loaners, when necessary; maintains records of incoming consignment and loaner inventories.
  • Ensures materials stored according to manufacturer requirements and in compliance with safety and fire regulations.
  • Promotes department compliance with policies and procedures regarding electrical safety, hazard identification, waste disposal and standard precautions; actively participates in unit based quality assurance program and supports unit based Performance Improvement activities.
  • Supervises, hires, trains, disciplines, and evaluates the performance of staff; ensures performance appraisals are completed in a timely manner; assists with interviews, makes recommendations regarding hiring, disciplining, and termination of staff.

Job Qualification




  • Bachelor's Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • 6-8 years of relevant experience and 2-5 years of leadership / management experience, required.
