Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as anActuarial Associate II!

About the Role

This is a second actuarial student position where the student calculates premiums or reserves for new or existing products and may perform research, experience studies, modeling, as well as other statistical analyses. Additionally, as this is a student role within our Actuarial Modernization team, job responsibilities will include a significant degree of software engineering work. The primary function of the role is to assist with Retirement forecasting deliverables, most notably Financial Plan and Solvency Assessments. This includes both performing the existing process and contributing meaningfully to our python code base.

  • Assists with product development, financial reporting, management reporting, experience studies, and actuarial research.
  • May prepare reports, maintain spreadsheets, databases, and other actuarial software.
  • Commitment to self-development, attaining industry knowledge, and passing actuarial exams to achieve actuarial designation.

Compensation

Salary Range:$85,400 - $142,300 plus eligibility for annual bonus programs

Who you are



  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent with strong quantitative background including college level mathematics.
  • 1 to 4 years of insurance related actuarial experience.
  • 3 to 5 actuarial exams. Prior to attaining actuarial designations.
  • Proficiency with python or similar programming language.
  • Proficiency with SQL.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Excel and other Office products.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • High school diploma required.
