About the Role 10x Genomics is seeking a highly experienced and strategic legal professional to join our Transactions team. Reporting directly to the Vice President, Transactions, this role offers an unparalleled opportunity to significantly impact the growth and strategy of a leading biotechnology company. You will provide critical legal counsel to our R&D, Commercial, and other functional teams to support our short-term objectives and long-term vision to enable scientific discovery and advance human health. What you will be doing:
- Work closely with Product, Technology Strategy, Operations, and other 10x teams to structure, draft, and negotiate a wide array of critical contracts. This includes leading negotiations for development and co-marketing collaborations, strategic sales and service relationships, and essential manufacturing, supply, and other vendor partnerships.
- Provide sophisticated legal and business advice to internal stakeholders, developing innovative solutions for a wide range of business and legal issues, including contract interpretation, relationship management, patent and copyright licensing, and other risks and strategic considerations.
- Lead all transactions and advise on other business and legal risks for multiple major company initiatives, including serving as primary Transactions team lead for one of 10x's three core technology platforms.
- Leverage excellent legal and business judgment to lead and close negotiations with sophisticated counterparties across academia, biopharma, and other key sectors.
- Become an indispensable legal resource for other 10xers by developing a deep understanding of 10x's products, businesses, processes, and relationships.
Minimum Qualifications:
- JD degree and admitted to practice (preferably in California)
- 7+ years in a law firm and/or in-house directly drafting and negotiating agreements, including significant experience with transactions in the biotechnology industry
- Solid understanding of contracting in life science companies, including R&D and commercial contracts
- Able to serve as a strong business partner who can integrate legal advice with business acumen and sound judgment
- Broad interest in and understanding of the needs and goals of the wide range of stakeholders in business transactions
- Able to think creatively, work independently, find solutions and think strategically
- Exceptional writing, communication, organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to educate and support colleagues and clients at all levels
- Self-directed and proactive, comfortable executing on multiple projects independently and in collaboration with others
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy
Preferred Qualifications:
- A strong background in life sciences, computer science, or related field
- Experience with the needs of clinical research and development, especially in diagnostics
- Experience leading the legal aspects of product co-development and co-marketing partnerships, or other complex, IP-heavy transactions
Below is the base pay range for this full-time position. The actual base pay will depend on several factors unique to each candidate, including one's skills, qualifications, and experience. At 10x, base pay is also just one component of the Company's total compensation package. This role is also eligible for 10x's equity grants, its comprehensive health and retirement benefit programs, and its annual bonus program or sales incentive program.
