The Utility Process Specialist is accountable for providing coaching and technical support for the daily operations of the Utility units for the Lake Charles Plant. The position is a gatekeeper of technical knowledge and ensures Process Safety is not compromised by reviewing and approving proposed changes to the process from external and internal influences. The position manages the daily activities for the plant units which generate steam, electrical power, process water and compressed air. This position identifies operational problems, promotes troubleshooting and offers solutions for these areas. The position also ensures proper maintenance and outage activities are being executed for the Utilities units to ensure plant reliability, quality, production, safety and environmental compliance. As time and development allows, this individual will also serve as the backup Catalloy Process Specialist. A Day in the Life:
Unit Operating directives: Directing the day to day activities of the operating areas described above: Updating daily operating instructions, reviewing maintenance notifications to communicate priorities and outage plans with PMC, troubleshooting and developing solutions to abnormal operating conditions, audit and monitor units to maximize quality, production and reliability. Responsible for efficient use of manpower and raw materials to meet fixed and variable budget targets. Support of outages and severe weather event implications to the utilities of the plant to support plant infrastructure operations. Process Safety champion: Ensure process safety of the units are maintained and evaluated to prevent incidents and continuously improve. Maintaining the operating windows of safety, environmental, and reliability of the process. Support the PHA process, investigation process, and developing projects to be implemented. Interfacing with others: Liaison between operating groups for utilities impact in the plant to ensure plant manufacturing KPIs and goals can be met aligned. Frequent communication to discuss plant operating constraints, opportunities, and plans between operations and maintenance/maintenance planning. Incident and Investigation: Responsible for incident verification and some consequence approvals in incident management system. Investigate unit and equipment incidents to develop root cause solutions while utilizing the H&OP principles. Technical Development and grow capabilities: Critical to the development of operator understanding through qualifications of the unit operators and development of technical group engineers with unit operating knowledge and managing desired changes to the process operation and design. Ensuring the technical basis for SOPs and emergency procedures is maintained in routine, non-routine and startup/shutdown activities and support of table top drills. Coordinate with Training department on needs, schedules, and quarterly training. Mentoring and Coaching of operations personnel and new process and production engineers assigned to the area. Management and hourly liaison: Represent management in response to grievances to prevent further development or answer and correct grievance issues. Communicate with management on issues and participate in Union/Management meetings. You Bring This Value :
High School or GED This position requires a minimum of ten (10) plus years of plant operations experience, experience as a Shift Supervisor/Step up supervisor is a plus. The individual must possess and demonstrate a thorough technical understanding of plant utility processes and deep understanding of utility unit operations. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills are required due to the frequent interaction with department personnel and other functional groups. Strong troubleshooting skills. Skills:
