Job Summary:

The Sustainability Manager will report to the Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) and be responsible for GHG emissions accounting, driving energy reduction projects, driving carbon sequestration in agriculture, participating in the development of our annual sustainability report and internal & community engagement projects. You will work closely with engineering, site managers, technical agricultural services, finance, contractors, and consultants to make Synagro the most Sustainable Company in our industry. To be successful, you will have expertise in the following areas:



  • Expertise in GHG accounting, analysis, and reporting (Scope, 1, 2, 3)
  • Experience with GHG management, systems, and software
  • Experience with Sustainability and ESG reporting and frameworks.
  • Experience in management of energy, emissions, and cost reduction projects
  • Experience in agriculture, carbon markets or the waste industry is a plus
  • Ability to manage programs and projects from concept inception to implementation.



Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities



  • Managing the companywide GHG emissions accounting system & software
  • Collection and analysis of GHG data for management review (quarterly, yearly)
  • Verification of GHG data for the annual sustainability report
  • Providing insights and recommendations on triple bottom line energy, renewable energy, GHG emissions and cost reduction projects
  • Working with the engineering department and sites to implement selected projects.
  • Partnering with sites on energy and carbon audits and sharing of best practices
  • Working with third parties on carbon sequestration, credits and offsets for Synagro's agricultural and bio char products.
  • Conduct training and awareness initiatives for sites and staff.



Knowledge/Skills/Abilities



  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, chemical or sustainability engineering or a related field.
  • Three plus years of experience in GHG management, accounting, systems, and software
  • Three plus years relevant environmental sustainability and reporting experience.
  • Experience in waste, wastewater or agriculture space is a plus.
  • Experience in GHG accounting software (Watershed, Novata, NetSuite, etc.) is a plus
  • Project management experience implementing carbon and energy projects.
  • Knowledge of the carbon markets and methodologies in relation to agriculture is a plus
  • Ability to manage programs and projects from concept inception to implementation.
  • Proficiency in excel and other Microsoft applications.
  • Strong written, oral, and presentation skills
  • Ability to work remotely or within a team.
