About the Job

The University of Minnesota Duluth Department of Art & Design invites applications for a part-time instructor-and/or-assistant professor position in Studio Art for the 2025-26 academic year. Persons selected will teach lower-and-upper-division courses to a diverse group of undergraduate students.

Appointments have an anticipated start date of fall semester 2025 (8/18/2025). Appointments are usually made on a semester-by-semester basis for the fall and spring semester contingent upon student enrollment and the availability of funding.

Salary is commensurate with experience.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Courses taught will likely include Digital Arts courses taken by Art & Design students pursuing the following majors: Art BA, Art Education BFA, Graphic Design BFA, and Studio Art BFA as well as courses for non-majors that are included in the Fine Arts category in the Liberal Education program.

Qualifications

Adjunct Instructor Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • MFA in studio art or a related field OR a BFA plus professional achievement that provides a depth of knowledge in the field comparable to an MFA degree. This might include evaluations by distinguished peers in the field or evidence of a professional level of accomplishment in the area(s) to which you are applying: Digital Arts.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with industry-standard software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects)
  • One or more years of college-level teaching experience (may include TA experience and community-based educational programming)
  • Practicing artist in the area(s) to which the candidate is applying as evidenced by a current exhibition and/or research record

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience or demonstrated ability to teach digital filmmaking, including areas such as video production, editing, and cinematic storytelling

Adjunct Assistant Professor Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • MFA, or equivalent in Digital Arts in studio art or a related field (in addition to required qualifications)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience or demonstrated ability to teach digital filmmaking, including areas such as video production, editing, and cinematic storytelling
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range:

  • Adjunct Instructor (9404A) - $45,481 - $60,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
  • Adjunct Assistant Professor (9403A) - $52,713 - $60,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
