There is also a Sign-On Bonus of up to $5,000 for those qualified. Job Summary:HOLT CAT is the largest Caterpillar dealership of heavy equipment in the United States. We have a full-time, Shop Service Technician position available at our Tyler, Texas, location. This mechanic position is responsible for performing troubleshooting, diagnoses, and repairs of diesel-powered heavy construction CAT equipment and/or related equipment and it components. The Technician will be following established dealership procedures and guidelines. Works independently or as a member of a team to provide mechanical services that satisfies customer needs and achieves departmental goals. The hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. We are located at 12218 State Highway 31 W, Tyler Texas 75709. The incumbent in this position is expected to model the following practices on a daily basis: 1) Demonstrate alignment with the company's mission and core business values; 2) Collaborate with key internal/external resources; 3) Participate in ongoing self-development. Essential Functions:
- Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT's Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission
- Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment malfunctions and failures
- Disassembles and assembles machine components to manufacturer's specifications through the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and any specialized tooling
- Rebuilds, repairs, reconditions, and maintains equipment and components
- Demonstrates good customer relations and support; communicates customer needs to shop management
- Plans and controls cost of repair jobs
- Completes parts orders and identifies parts for return
- Mentors and helps train other technicians
- Maintains all equipment and work areas - keeps in good, clean, and orderly condition
- Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
- Works overtime as required by workload and customers' needs
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; e.g., ProTech Technician Training Paths
- Requires regular and punctual employee attendance
- Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Caterpillar machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
- Knowledge of heavy equipment machines such as dozers, excavators, motor graders, and other dirt moving equipment or related similar equipment
- Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems
- Knowledge of CAT ET and CAT SIS programs.
- Quality control analysis skills - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance and communicate findings
- Operation and control skills - Controlling operations of equipment or systems
- Equipment selection skills - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
- Ability to operate a forklift and an overhead crane
- The ability to quickly and repeatedly operate the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair
- The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
- The ability to read, write, and understand information and use a computer on a daily basis.
- The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
- Must have/acquire mechanic tooling and pneumatic tools (metric/standard) in order to complete the job.
Education and Experience:
- At least 4 years of diesel-powered heavy equipment repair experience preferred
- Ability and knowledge to read/use schematics and diagrams experience is preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Graduation from a diesel technology program preferred

- No travel is expected for this position
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
- Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina
- Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment
- Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment
- Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work
Work Environment:
- Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts
- May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity
- Noise level may be loud at times
- Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high speed rotating equipment
- Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment
- Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places
