Job Summary: This position is responsible for performing advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, analysis, and repair work on heavy equipment in order to respond to customer needs in a positive, caring and timely manner and to ensure maximum value for work performed. In addition, this position is requires a detail minded individual with thorough construction equipment knowledge The incumbent in this position is expected to model the following practices on a daily basis: 1) Demonstrate alignment with the company's mission and core business values; 2) Collaborate with key internal/external resources; 3) Participate in ongoing self-development. Essential Functions:
- Performs troubleshooting and diagnosing of industrial engines malfunctions and failures
- Advises customer of problem areas, recommend repair solutions, acquire customer approval and order appropriate parts in order to repair equipment in a timely manner
- Removes and replaces machine components utilizing required technical data and procedures in order to repair equipment to dealership and CAT standards
- Maintain technical proficiency through self-study and/or successful completion of required training courses in order to increase job related competencies
- Performs product improvement updates as needed
- Acts as a team leader and mentors/coaches other employees
- Completes all documents associated with repairs in a timely manner
- Maintains all equipment and work areas - keeps in good, clean, and orderly condition
- Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
- Works overtime as required by workload and customers' needs
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; e.g., Technical Service Department Training Paths
- Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Expert level working knowledge of hydraulics, electronic controls, electrical systems/components, industrial engines, telematics, calibrations, and all machine models
- Thorough knowledge of CAT 3600 industrial engines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
- Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems
- Experienced with CAT ET and CAT SIS
- Operation and control skills - Controlling operations of equipment or systems
- Equipment selection skills - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
- Ability to assess condition of used equipment and basic knowledge of used equipment values
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair
- The ability to quickly and repeatedly operate the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions
- The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
- Ability to work independently and within a team in a fast-paced, high volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness
- Exceptional organizational, self-management, time management, and multi-tasking skills
- The ability to read, write, and understand information, must be able to use a laptop and be able troubleshoot using computer software
- The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
Additional Requirements:
- Must have basic mechanic hand and pneumatic tools (metric/standard)
Education and Experience:
- Must have 6 years of CAT 3600 engine commissioning experience
- CAT 3600 Engine commissioning certified preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Must be able to pass a DOT Physical and maintain a DOT medical card
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Travel:
- Daily local trips to customer site with occasional overnight stay possible
- Travel could be up to 75% of time with overnight stays and some out of territory and out of state.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
- Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 80 lb
- Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina
- Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment
- Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment
- Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work
Work Environment:
- Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment
- Regularly works outdoors around moving mechanical parts and noise level may be loud at times
- May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity
- Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high speed rotating equipment
- Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places
