BID/JOB ANNOUNCEMENT FOREMAN OF ELECTRICAL MECHANICS-AUTOMOTIVE DEPARTMENT OF FLEET AND FACILITY MANAGEMENT Division of Fleet Maintenance Operations Number of Positions: 1 (Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval) Starting Salary: $63.53/Hour This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City's collective bargaining agreement with IBEW-Local 134 (Bargaining Unit 32). Select your correct bargaining unit FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS WILL RESULT IN A REJECTED BID APPLICATION Applications for this position will be accepted from 7/18/25, until 11:59pm CDT on 8/1/25 The City of Chicago's Department of Fleet and Facility Management is seeking a Foreman of Electrical Mechanics-Automotive to supervise skilled trades personnel performing automotive service technician work in the inspection, repair and maintenance of electrical systems and electronic components found in automobiles and light and heavy-duty gasoline and diesel driven automotive equipment, and performs related duties as required ESSENTIAL DUTIES * Works an assigned shift at a Department of Fleet and Facility Management garage facility, prioritizing and assigning work to electrical mechanics - automotive engaged in repairing and replacing electrical systems in city vehicles and automotive equipment Additional duties may be required for this position. * Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate's Degree in Automotive Technology, or a directly related field, plus four years of work experience as an automotive technician in the repair and maintenance of gasoline and diesel driven automotive equipment; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience * A valid State of Illinois driver's license is required NOTES WORKING CONDITIONS * Exposure to loud noise, fumes or dust, oily or wet environment * Exposure to hazardous conditions (e.g., heavy machinery) * Works in adverse weather conditions EQUIPMENT * Computers and peripheral equipment (e.g., personal computer, computer terminals, hand-held computer, modems) * Standard tools used in servicing automotive equipment (e.g., combination wrench, ratchet wrench, air impact guns, overhead pneumatic dispenser) * Testing and monitoring equipment (e.g., computerized diagnostic equipment) * Personal protective equipment (e.g., hard hat, shoes, glasses, gloves, vest, pads) * Hydraulic jacks and hoists PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS * Ability to stand and walk for extended or continuous periods of time * Ability to quickly bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with one's body, arms, and/or legs * Ability to operate applicable hand tools, power tools, and equipment SELECTION REQUIREMENTS This position requires applicants to successfully pass a written test / skills assessment and complete an interview. Test results will be sent out by the Department of Human Resources after test results have been analyzed and compiled. The interviewed candidate(s) receiving a passing score on the test and possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected.
