The Rehabilitation Therapy Aide is responsible for the safety, housekeeping, maintenance, infection control, and supplies and equipment needs of the department and provides backup coverage for the secretarial/reception area. The Rehab Therapy Aide also assists therapists to support patient care as needed.
This position is part of the 1199SEIU Bargaining Unit at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.
This position reports to the Assistant Director, Rehabilitation Services and operates within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Skill and knowledge typically acquired through the completion of an Associate's Degree with a focus in business or health related field Experience working in a health care setting such as a physician or therapy office preferred Demonstrated written and verbal skills and excellent customer service skills required Demonstrated proficiency in using computer programs including Microsoft Word and Excel required Current driver's license required Current American Heart Association BLS certification required
SHIFT:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assist in miscellaneous operational back-up and secretarial/receptionist tasks as delegated and assigned including filing, phoning patients for reminders, sorting mail, collating statistics, compiling census updates, and typing. Track and report daily inpatient census. Maintain established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, confidentiality, quality improvement program, safety, compliance, infection control, and environmental standards. Maintain professional growth and development through attendance at seminars, workshops, conferences or in-services, professional affiliations, or journals to stay abreast of current trends in field of expertise. Attend meetings as required. Meet annual competency and retraining requirements. Perform other functions/duties as requested.
Prepare, set up and clean patient care areas in all rehabilitation services specialties. Duties include:
Tidy and clean treatment areas and linens prior to patient's arrival Escort patients to treatment areas Provide proper garments for patients Responsible for acquiring equipment, assembly and set up for treatment and the notification of the therapist.
Assist inpatient and outpatient therapy staff in patient care as needed, directed, and supervised including:
Monitor and / or facilitate exercise as instructed by therapist or licensed assistant Assist in ambulation or transfers as instructed Obtain equipment or supplies as instructed Assist therapists or licensed assistants in provision of therapy Assist in ambulating or transferring patients as directed by therapists
Ensure the safety, housekeeping, maintenance, supplies, and equipment needs of the department, to include:
Distribute linens and dispose of laundry Tidy booth, gym, and overall department to eliminate clutter Request repairs in a timely fashion Stock all medical and non-medical supplies and maintain inventory Submit requisitions, based on inventory needs, to Assistant Director for approval and processing of items supplied by outside vendors and place orders directly with select vendors (i.e. WB Mason) Submit orders to storeroom for stocked items Clean patient care equipment as directed (splint pans, hydro units, paraffin, etc.) Conduct temperature checks of equipment Schedule biomedical equipment and crash cart/AED checkup dates Ensure OSHA guidelines adherence Monitor consignment closet supplies and orders
