Position Summary:
The Public Relations/Social Media Manager understands the PCOM vision, goals and strategies and integrates these organizational values into their work in order to enhance the College's reputation and brand awareness. As the key public relations and social media professional on campus, this employee advises key stakeholders and the Marketing and Communications (MarCom) team on public relations issues and develops strategies to promote the campus, its programs, faculty and student body, through earned and owned media. This position works in a highly collaborative environment supporting PCOM South Georgia while reporting to the Associate Director of Social Media and the Assistant Director of News and Media Relations.
The Public Relations/Social Media Manager leads the management and content creation for PCOM South Georgia's social media platforms and contributes to broader College channels. Acting as the social voice of the Moultrie campus, this role develops engaging visual and written content aligned with institutional goals, supports enrollment and brand storytelling, monitors analytics using tools like Sprout Social, and adjusts strategies based on trends and performance. This role collaborates with cross-campus team members on larger campaigns, and partners with students and faculty for collaborative, campus-specific content. This position ensures timely, optimized content is produced across platforms and maintains an active, responsive, and professional social presence representing daily life at PCOM South Georgia.
In addition, this full-time employee works with the PR team, under the direction of the Assistant Director of News and Media Relations at PCOM Georgia, to proactively seek PR opportunities across the state of Georgia and the Southeast and promote the College across multiple platforms, which may include, but are not limited to local, regional and national media outlets; and owned media such as the College website, the president's podcast, the external newsletter and the alumni magazine.
This position is the primary contact for the South Georgia media and is available 24/7 to handle reporter inquiries, from expert requests to crisis responses. This position triages requests from the media, schedules interviews with the appropriate faculty member, staff member or administrator, and ensures those individuals are fully prepared through the development of backgrounders, key messaging, talking points and participation in media training sessions. This position also works with students to illuminate stories that convey the student experience at PCOM South Georgia.
ESSENTIAL SUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
PR:
* Develops and manages creative PR strategies and tactical programs to achieve College objectives and fulfill strategic plans as outlined by administration.
* Develops and maintains ongoing relationships with local and regional media to both pitch stories and to be a resource for them when experts are needed.
* Establishes new relationships with new media contacts.
* Writes and places press releases and media advisories to promote the osteopathic medicine doctoral program and the biomedical sciences master's program, along with developing programs, in addition to other PCOM programs, departments, research, and the accomplishments of faculty, staff and students.
* Engages in social listening and serves as the point person for crisis communications at PCOM South Georgia, and is available 24/7 to respond to reporter inquiries, both crisis responses and expert requests.
* Works closely with campus leadership, including the dean, the chief of campus operations, and program heads of various departments, counseling and advising them on public relations practices and strategies.
* Prepares PCOM South Georgia employees to respond to media requests through the development of backgrounders, key messaging, talking points and participation in media training sessions.
* Serves as a spokesperson for the College, as necessary.
* Develops and writes regular news stories and sources photos for the College website and media pitches.
* Works with the PR team to contribute to Link, Digest, College-wide infographics, podcasts, etc., which represent the PCOM South Georgia campus.
* Utilizes an earned media contact management system and newswires to place and track PR efforts.
Social:
* Manages, monitors, and creates engaging, optimized content for PCOM South Georgia's social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Threads, LinkedIn) and contributes to PCOM's cross-campus TikTok and YouTube accounts.
* Serves as the campus social media voice to ensure consistent, on-brand messaging.
* Collaborates on cross-campus campaigns and supports key events and enrollment goals.
* Produces visual assets using Adobe Creative Suite and/or in-app features; social media video experience is a must
* Stays up to date on platform trends, features, and best practices.
* Supervises and manages the Social Media Assistant Work-Study position at PCOM South Georgia, guiding the student's daily tasks and approving suggested content
* Works to build and maintain the reputation of the Office of Marketing and Communications as a valuable resource for all College departments.
* Hires and manages outside resources as necessary, i.e. media training, freelance support, photographer, videographer, etc.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education
* Bachelor's Degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related field.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
* No Board Certification or Board Eligibility is required. Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) certification is desired.
Experience
* Minimum of five years in public relations or communications; education or healthcare setting preferred. Experience with managing social media for a brand. Basic photography and videography experience needed, basic media editing skills required. Extensive writing experience required.
Required Skills
* The Public Relations/Social Media Manager must be able to work evenings and/or weekends and to travel overnight as required on occasion. Must be available to respond to crises and issues as they arise. This position is hybrid.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent computer skills with proficiency in Apple operating systems; proficient with Microsoft Office and/or Google Business softwares; proficient in the use and understanding of various popular social media channels; familiar photo/video content creation and editing.
* Occasionally lifts and sets up supplies and equipment, or stands/walks for extended periods of time.
The referenced salary range is based on PCOM good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.
