Qualifications

Education and Experience: Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school and experience
equivalent to three years of full-time investigative, auditing, claims examinations, business management, or
other related work.

Necessary Special Qualifications: Possess and maintain a valid vehicle operator's license during employment.

Overview

Under general supervision, is responsible for labor standards inspection work of average difficulty, and performs related work as required. This is the working class in the Labor Standards Sub-Series. An employee in this class performs inspections and/or investigative work regarding compliance with labor standards statutory laws. This class differs from the Labor Standards Specialist in that the incumbent of the latter is responsible for quality control of inspections submitted to ensure they follow the labor standards inspection program.

Responsibilities

1. Conduct routine/random, complaint, and referral inspections at a variety of business types within a
timely manner regarding compliance with labor standards statutory laws.
2. Request, review, and evaluate documents required by the labor standards statutory laws.
3. Accurately document the events of inspections in the Labor Standards System and make updates as new
information becomes available.
4. Use judgement aligned with codes and policies along with knowledge of the statutory laws governed by
the labor standards unit to accurately cite violations when encountered.
5. Upload supporting documentation related to inspections.
6. Educate employers on compliance issues.
7. All other duties as required.

TN Driver Standards

State of Tennessee positions that may involve driving responsibilities require candidates to meet the following minimum driver qualifications:

  • A valid driver's license
  • For the past five years, the candidate's driver record must not have record of the following violations: driving under the influence (DUI), reckless driving, license suspension for moving violations, more than 4 moving violations.
