Position Summary

The Sociology and History programs at Allan Hancock College are seeking applications to develop a qualified pool of part-time faculty for in-person instructional vacancies. The position is primarily intended to serve students at the Lompoc Federal Correctional Institution but may be offered assignments at other locations, as needed. Assignments may be for spring, summer, or fall, and may be day or evening hours. Depending on the faculty member's area of expertise, the courses most likely to be assigned to this position are SOC 120 Introduction to Racial and Ethnic Groups (cross-listed as ES 101), HIST/ES 120: Chicano History, or HIST/ES 121: African American History.

Please note that this is not a remote position.

Essential Functions and Qualifications

  • Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum and course outlines.
  • Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
  • Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter areas.
  • Fulfill professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member.
  • Teach all scheduled classes.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Assignments may include day, evening, or weekend classes.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's in History

OR Master's in Sociology

OR Master's in Ethnic Studies

OR Master's in African American Studies, Black Studies, Africana Studies, Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Chicana/o Studies

OR Bachelor's in history AND Master's in political science, humanities, geography, area studies, women's studies, social science or ethnic studies

OR Bachelor's in sociology AND Master's in anthropology, any ethnic studies, social work or psychology

OR the equivalent

The position requires additional background clearances to gain entry into facilities/settings.

The position is primarily intended to serve students at the Lompoc Federal Correctional Institution but may be offered assignments at other locations as well.

SALARY

* Lecture Rate: $56.46 to $86.44 per hour depending upon education and experience

* Lab Rate: $49.17 to $75.26 per hour depending upon education and experience

* Activity Rate: $36.33 to $56.69 per hour depending upon education and experience
