What we are looking for
As a Field Technician II at SCS Engineers, you will work under general supervision to operate, monitor, maintain landfill gas migration control and recovery systems, and provide long-term post closure care at closed landfill sites. Additionally, you may operate, monitor, and maintain other environmental pollution control systems including VES (Vapor Extraction systems) and GWP&T (Ground Water Pump and Treat). As a valuable member of the SCS Field Services team, you will perform your work in a professional, productive, and safe manner. You will report to a senior-level supervisor, such as a product superintendent or a project manager in the Orlando, FL area.
How you can make an impact
Field sampling of various test locations including wells, probes, headers, blowers, flares, pumps, etc.
- Data recording and analysis.
- Based on data review and consultation with supervisor, adjust gas flow rates from wells, headers, and blowers (pumps).
- Operate and maintain various analytical equipment including calibration.
- Record and maintain daily field logs reporting data collected, field observations, actions taken, and recommended actions to be taken.
- Report/consult with supervisor (and in some instances client) regarding field conditions and test results.
- Implement necessary routine and non-routine repairs and maintenance required to keep systems operating and in compliance with various prescribed operating parameters and goals.
- Perform, supervise, and/or otherwise assist in required maintenance and repairs.
- Interact/supervise/manage vendors and/or sub-contractors needed to assist with operating, monitoring, and maintenance of the control/recovery systems.
- Conduct on-site Health and Safety meetings (tailgate meetings) and verify that Health and Safety standards are followed by on-site staff and sub-contractors.
- Walk the landfill with an air-monitoring instrument to perform surface emission monitoring.
- Use of tools, ladders, portable saws, and generators to cut pipe to raise or repair gas well piping.
- Use grinders and extrusion welding equipment to repair or expand gas system or leachate piping.
- May be required to operate backhoe and/or forklifts to remove soil and lift piping and equipment to perform non-routine repairs on gas system and leachate piping.
- Lift manhole covers and enter sumps or vaults to obtain well measurements or tune gas wells.
- Repair leachate or condensate pumps. Lift and lower repaired pumps into vaults or sumps.
- Complete the site check list and inform the supervisor of any changes or concerns.
- Participate in monthly tailgate Health and Safety meetings. Participate in monthly Health and Safety (SOP) training.
- Prepare daily logs for work performed on sites during workday.
- Actively participate in the SAFE process by making observations, review and assist in the development of the project health and safety plans including the associated Job Task Safety Analyses.
- Assist Laborers, Field Technician II, Senior Field Technicians, Equipment Operators, Foreman or other staff.
Qualifications
- 40-hour Health and Safety, 8-hour Management and Supervisor, OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120, Confined Space Entry, and Trench Excavation Safety training.
- High school diploma preferred.
- Training in polyethylene pipe fusion for construction or combustible gas sensor and/or ground flare O&M.
- 0-3 years' experience in O&M of mechanical systems or pipeline construction.
- Experience or demonstrated high degree of aptitude in mechanical work; analytical problem solving and data analysis; interpretation of plans, specifications, schematics, manufacturer manuals, system operation and maintenance manuals; interpretation of applicable codes and regulations.
- Effective organizational as well as written and verbal communication skills.
- Meet physical requirements for driving (pick-up truck), walking inspection of improved and unimproved property, lifting and carrying equipment/mechanical components (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), hand excavation/digging (using shovels/picks), carrying and climbing ladders, operating and working from manlifts, operating electric tools (drills, saws, etc.), using hand tools (screw drivers, wrenches, hammers, etc.) and providing services under varying weather conditions. Pay Range
USD $25.00 - USD $27.00 /Hr.
