Join the HJF Team! HJF is seeking a Research Associate I to provide laboratory and technical support to senior technical and professional staff and solve less complex problems in carrying out research projects in a laboratory environment. Potential for managing and publishing independent research project(s) at the discretion of the Principal Investigator (PI). The primary focus of the laboratory is the molecular pathogenesis of the bacterial pathogen Shigella. Additional projects include collaborative studies with other bacterial pathogens including the Escherichia coli pathovars and other enteric microbes. This position is the first of four levels within the Research Associate series. This position will be in support of the laboratory of Dr. Christina S. Faherty at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Department of Microbiology and Immunology. Th laboratory studies how Shigella adapts to the gastrointestinal environment and successfully infects the colonic epithelium. Active projects include studying how Shigella 1) resists the bactericidal nature of the human gastrointestinal tract, 2) regulates gene expression during gastrointestinal transit, and 3) initiates infection of the colonic epithelium. The laboratory uses host signals and sophisticated organoid models to replicate the human gastrointestinal environment.
