Description
The Supervisor of Operations leads a team within the Lettershop department to fulfill job orders efficiently and profitably. This role is responsible for achieving production objectives and developing a comprehensive understanding of team dynamics to optimize performance and output.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The person in this role will manage a team of approximately 15 to 35 employees. Recruits and retains high-performing team members to ensure exceptional customer support. Coaches and develops staff, promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Achieve department goals in waste reduction, billable hours, equipment utilization, and quality metrics.
- Promote and enforce workplace safety policies and practices.
- Monitor and drive performance metrics across shifts, supporting team accountability.
- Maintain high visibility on the production floor to foster a collaborative, engaged, and productive work environment.
- Implement cost-effective and proactive production strategies to enhance customer service and operational efficiency.
- Manage staffing schedules based on volume and production targets; adapt workflows, team assignments, inventory levels, and equipment needs accordingly.
- Ensure adherence to quality standards and proactively address defects or rework opportunities.
- Lead setup operations to minimize changeover time and improve throughput.
- Maintain timely and accurate production reporting each week.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and all applicable safety and environmental regulations.
- Partner with department leadership to assess staffing levels and equipment needs in alignment with strategic goals.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with other facility managers to maximize profitability.
- Uphold company HR policies and practices; liaise with HR for employee relations, performance management, recruitment, compensation, and disciplinary action.
- Deliver timely and constructive performance reviews; provide coaching and feedback to support development.
- Administer daily payroll and manage time-off records for direct reports.
- Promote a culture of safety, quality, and accountability.
- Perform other (or other related) duties as applicable or assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities/Competencies:
- Proficient in reading and writing English.
- Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Foundation software a plus.
- Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- Demonstrated strategic thinking and process improvement experience.
- Clear and confident communicator-both written and verbal.
- Bilingual fluency (Vietnamese, Cambodian, or Spanish) is highly desirable.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required; post-secondary education in manufacturing or business preferred (equivalent industry experience will be considered).
- 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience; exposure to direct response or similar industry preferred.
- Prior safety team participation or training is an asset.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing and/or quality assurance methods preferred.
Ability to work consecutively 12-hour shifts, rotating 3 or 4 days per week including weekend rotations.
Availability for after-hours support when needed.
Must maintain active presence on production floor.
Standard climate-controlled production environment; exposure to loud noise (PPE provided).
Ability to lift, carry and push/pull up to 35 pounds.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, pivot, crouch, squat, kneel, and stoop for up to 12 hours.
Upper extremity motion requirements: fine motor movements, pushing/pulling with arms, grasping and pinching.
Lower extremity motion requirements: reaching.
Pre-employment post-offer physical assessment required.
Salary The starting salary range for this position is $60,000-80,000/yr. At IWCO, base pay is determined by job-related knowledge, skills, credentials, and experience, along with factors such as role scope and location.
