Job Summary

The clinical trials coordinator plays a critical role in planning and conducting veterinary clinical trials by contributing technical assistance during veterinary visits to the VMTH and assisting in other trials related tasks. They are under supervision of the Clinical Trials Coordinator Supervisor, and work closely with SVM faculty, VMTH house officers and other VCCT coordinators and administrators to provide clinical and technical support for small animal clinical trials conducted at the VMTH. Primary responsibilities include trial subject recruitment and screening, informed consent procedures, scheduling and conducting study veterinary clinical visits per research protocol and in compliance with best research practices and center Standard Operating Procedures. Further, clinical trials coordinators are responsible for sample acquisition and processing, such as blood sample collection, creation and management of study databases and forms to store patient information, data entry and medical records documentation. Clinical trials coordinators also complete trial-related communications with investigators, monitors, sponsors, and the public. Other responsibilities include working to ensure accurate billing of charges to clients and grants, assisting with IACUC and regulatory submissions, and providing input into operational and recruitment aspects of proposed trial protocols.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • No Minimum education required.
  • Experience communicating with animal owners about veterinary care.
  • Experience in performing basic clinical techniques in dogs and cats such as phlebotomy, cystocentesis, aseptic technique, IV catheter placement, blood pressure measurement, administration of medications, and sedation and monitoring.
  • Demonstrated experience in veterinary medical technical skills.
  • Written and oral communication skills to effectively coordinate and execute complex clinical logistics and activities involving diverse groups and individuals such as animal owners, scientists, veterinarians, and various hospital staff.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and disease processes.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including document creation and tracked editing, database creation, data entry, electronic medical records-keeping.
  • Ability to pay strict attention to detail, follow detailed protocols, and perform multiple procedures in a fast-paced environment.
  • Organizational skills to prioritize daily work load, ensure timely completion of diagnostic reports and medical records, and to ensure completion of research projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possession of a California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license.
  • Experience with clinical trial conduct.
  • Experience performing advanced veterinary technical procedures in dogs and cats such as general anesthesia, post-operative patient monitoring, administration of chemotherapy, and care for chronically or critically ill animals.
  • Familiarity with principles of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) as applied to veterinary clinical trials.
  • Knowledge of IACUC procedures and applications.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, reporting requirements, record keeping, and disposal of chemicals.

Work Environment
